I-751 Service Request - does it even make sense?

Hi all!

My case has been pending since 7/30/2020. The last status update was on 8/18/2020 that my fingerprints were reused. Even since there has been radio silence.

I know I-751 cases take long, already got my I-551 stamp after my extension letter expired.

Has anyone got any useful response after submitting a service request based on the case being outside of normal processing time? I would love to hear what everyone's experience has been.

In our case we started out at California Service Center (WAC) then moved to NBC, we kept getting fingerprint reuse notices from WAC even though it moved to NBC. So we made a service request when our case was outside processing time for the WAC. Months later we got a response that our case would be handeled at the local field office with our n400 case. See our timeline below.

K1 Visa Arrived USA July 2017

Married August 2017

AOS Approved July 2018

Filed for i751 joint application May 2020

Fingerprints reused October 2020, and February 2021 and June 2021 (Yes 3 fingerprint notices)

Case move to National Benefits Center December 2020 for quicker processing from California Service Center

Oct 2021 out of processing time inquiry made, response May 5th 2022 that our i751 case will be addressed at our n400 interview

Combo interview May 16th 2022, in Sacramento

Approved June 08, 2022

Filed for Naturalization May 2021

Fingerprints reused May 2021

Combo interview May 16th 2022, in Sacramento,

Approved June 08, 2022

Oath Ceremony completed June 29th 2022

A lot of people who filed certain petitions (mainly N-400) during spring 2020 made a FOIA request to get their petitions "out in the open" and it seemed to have helped a lot of them. Their petitions were stuck due to filing right when the pandemic happened, your case isn't far from that. I would try with a FOIA, I don't think a service request will do much. The FOIA is for free so if it doesn't help any, you haven't lost anything.

Not until May of 2023. Filing under the 5 yr rule due to my waiver case.

You may as well try - it only takes a few minutes to fill it out, but I think (?) you have to be outside of the processing time to actual file that request. Your time would be better spent trying to get another stamp in the passport.

We've been 2 out of 3 with service requests (green card never printed, name change - were done quickly) but the service request for reissuing an NOA with a typo was basically ignore twice.

I did submit the SR. I do not have high hopes for it. My stamp is valid until 7/2023 so I still got time to go. I will be eligible to file for N-400 in May. I hope the USCIS makes a decision or moves my case forward at least before then.

I am sorry to hear about your trouble. That sounds rather messed up.

As of October 31, 2022, your inquiry about why your case is taking longer than our processing time, referral number SR1XXXXXXXXXXYSC, is currently not assigned for processing.

It has not even been assigned in 10 days. I doubt anything useful will come out of this.
