Montreal Interview- Travelled to Iraq and Turkey

Hello,

I am a canadian citizen married to a U.S. citizen. I am currently in the U.S. on a TN visa (work visa). I went through the green card process and am currently DQ's awaiting my interview date. My concern is that in the last 5 years I have travelled to Turkey and to Iraq. Would this raise alarms? Are you allowed to travel while going through the visa process? I went to both countries once in the last year.

Any advice and feedback will be appreciated.

Thanks.

I went to Turkey several times before I moved to the US to be with my now-husband. No issues and no questions asked. I’m not sure about Iraq. You’re allowed to travel freely. The only thing it might “trigger” (and it’s not for certain) is a longer AP/potential DS3355, which has been talked about in your previous thread

I have been to Turkey 4 times, not sure why there is an issue with Turkey.

I can see Iraq might raise eyebrows.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

To answer your question, expect to be asked why you went to Iraq.  Whether it will be a problem or not depends on your answer.

You have not "gone through the green card process".  You are going through an immigrant visa process.  After you receive the immigrant visa AND use it, you will be a Lawful Permanent Resident of the USA, and will receive a green card as evidence of that status.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
