I have just returned from living in Hungary, where my fiance is from. Currently I am doing temp work to earn money to go be with him in New Zeland, where he is currently working. I will not have enough financial support for the I-134. My parents are willing to sponsor him financially until we can get settled here in the US. The only problem is they live in Texas and I live in Tennessee. So there sponsorship will be financial but not physical, as in they will not be providing his place to live, etc.

Can anyone give me any insight on the I-134 and sponsorship from someone other than me? Will it matter that we will not live with them even if they are the main financial sponsors?

Thank you for your help.

They don't have to live in the same home, town or state, they are just agreeing to give financial support. You and they will provide an I-134 for the interview.

And for purposes of the I-134 he will be listed as a part of their household. It doesn't matter if where he lives upon arrival, just that he is sponsored by a qualified sponsor.

Probably only one parent needs to be the sponsor but both parents are part of the household.

twalker,

It might matter. One of the things that the consular officer has to consider is whether or not the sponsor is likely to actually provide to support that is offered should the need arise. A relative living in the same residence is a much better bet than a friend living on the other side of the country. Your parents are somewhere in between.

Some consulates are rather easy on this issue, others - Manilla comes quickly to mind - are strict to the point that many people believe that any sponsor other than the petitioner is not acceptable. I don't know what consulate your fiance will be applying at, but if it's in New Zealand then it's probably not something to worry about.
