Proof of Documents

Hello,

I am starting to complete Form DS-230, and I am completing the area that requires employment history. Since my memory of dates is fuzzy (I know I'm going to be off by a month or two for some of them), will the consulate require proof of my actual employment history? Such as pay stubs or tax reciepts, to confirm my work dates?

Simply answer to the best of your recollection.. typically no other evidence is requested to substantiate

If you guess, make it a guess in your favour by keeping the time between jobs as short as possible and the time working as long as possible.

They don't check on that stuff, just estimate if you don't remember. If you were unemployed for a certain period of time, put that in too and try not to leave any gaps. If you were unemployed because you were going to school, then write that down too - "Unemployed. Attending school."

hmmm... Montreal consulate website states that Visa applicants will be required to bring proof for the following...

Records of employment

Old pay stubs

Old lease agreements/home ownerships

etc etc

What happens if I am unable to provide all this documentation? I never keep anything like these things!

My fiancee just had a hard time filling that out, as well. She's worked as supply staff for five different daycares and other odd jobs about five years ago. She put down as much as she could remember.

For educational institutions, she only put her college and the high school since she was 16. Before that, she moved very often and went to at least 15 different schools.

I think we are just going to cross our fingers for both of those.

Do they really request this during the interview? There is no way I can get a lot of this stuff.

For what type of visa applicant does it list that for?

ETA: Just read your other post. Disregard that. K visas are NOT processed the same way other non-immigrant visas are processed. Just follow what is on your checklist. They will not ask the beneficiary for proof of employment or rentals. Those really only apply for people wanting to get other non-immigrant visas.

Neither did my then fiancé have to prove anything related to work history.

Maybe I'm just misunderstanding something here but that link to the consulate MTL states showing ties to Canada....if one is applying for a U.S. Visa (the K1 or K3 for instance) why would one need to show strong ties to Canada:

In order to qualify for most categories of U.S. non-immigrant visas, you must be able to demonstrate to a U.S. Consular Officer that you have a permanent residence outside the United States that you do not intend to abandon. You may satisfy this requirement by showing you have strong economic, familial and social ties to Canada. "Ties" are factors that would require you to return to Canada upon completion of your temporary visit to the United States. Landed Immigrants in Canada must show ties to Canada.

Many applicants ask what documents they can bring to their visa interview that would demonstrate sufficiently their "ties" to their home country. The answer to this question is that no single document will be relevant to every case. Applicants should ask themselves the following question: "If I were visiting in the United States, what factors would cause me to end my visit and depart the United States?" Relevant factors, or "ties," outside the U.S. could be such things as a job, ownership of property, dependent children, or other important responsibilities that require your presence in your home country. You must demonstrate to the Consular Officer that these "ties" are strong enough to compel you to return to your home country upon completion of your visit to the United States."

This sounds more like what you'd need to come visit the US before the completion of the K1 and visa issuance. Or did I just confuse everyone completely?
