Joint sponsor - married filing jointly.

Hello, I'm a bit confused here and would like any info from anyone who has had a similar experience in Montreal.

I have a joint sponsor who has well above the required income( and a W2 showing that income), however, she has a married filing jointly tax status. I have her tax transcripts.

As per the NVC instructions all I need is the signed I-864 form, her W2 and her tax transcripts. Also looking at the FAQ thread above, you just need to bring their W2 if they are married filing jointly.

However, other people have said the joint sponsors spouse also needs to fill out an I-864a?? I thought that was only if you needed their income to meet the requirement.

Anyone who has gone through something similar? Did the W2 suffice at the interview?

Technically you are correct, just a I-864, tax transcripts and all W2's and 1099's of the person sponsoring you are required.  But I have read here on VJ others in your situation being asked by NVC/embassy for the I-864a from the joint sponsor's spouse.

I would have it ready but not submitted, just in case.

Hello, did you have to submit 184A for the spouse or not?
