Doctors have sadi that when acne is on the lower part of the face, it is often caused by hormones, that's why the birth controll pill can be effective. I wonder how topical things like Proactive help? Loreal makes a over the counter treatment similar to proactive that with consistent sue does keep the skin looking good.

I had severe acne throughout my entire teenage life. When I was 19 I got a book of natural remedies which recommended the use of garlic. After using it for about a week, I noticed a big difference. All the pimples dried up and my skin became clear. I used it for an extended period of time to prevent recurrence. I have since stopped using garlic and I haven't had any further problems.

Thanks for all the advice :D

I have never suffered from 'bad' acne... It's always been quite mild, but still annoying! I do get the lesions under the skin that you can't pop... They are almost like blind boils? Luckily they aren't there all the time though..

I'm going to give the pro active a shot anyway and see what happens... If it doesn't help then I will go back to the docs and see if he can suggest something stronger.

I think I will stay away from accutane too! :o

I've been using St. Ives Apricot scrub lately and so far it's worked pretty good. I've found that if I use the same product for awhile it stops working as well...I guess my skin gets used to it or something? I dunno, but I switch between a couple every few months.

My little sister uses ProActive and she has been for a few years. She seems to like it.

I use proactive and have used it for about 2 years now. I really love it and have had great results. I agree with another poster...don't get it from the website because then you get locked into this auto ship thing. I just go to the mall and buy what products I want whenever I need them. They were sending me a new shipment every month when really I only needed more product every 2 months or so.

As for body acne...I know proactive has a body wash type thing. I never used it but I know a friend who has and she had great results. It's worth a try IMO.

So, I got the pro active and have been using it for about a week... I have decided that the sulpher face mask is a little bit TOO potent for my skin as I ended up looking sunburnt...

I started using the cleanser twice a day and the renewing lotion twice a day, but now my face is falling off (Slight exaggeration maybe..) so I have cut back a little bit... It has made my skin dry and flaky.. I'm assuming it's supposed to do this to start with?

My skin does actually look clearer though... Will the flakiness go away soon?

I started using ProActive, but just at night, I'm afraid using the product during the day with the sun and all might be a problem.

Two things I have used in the past are differin gel and retin-a. Retin-a is a bit stronger than differin so I preferred the differin. It didn't dry my skin out as much. Both work very well though. Need to get a prescription from the doctor though.

I tried that Loreal stuff and I didn't care for it. It didn't help to clear up my skin. I ended up using Clinique's 3 step process and my skin stays clear as long as I use it. I have sensitive skin so I was apprehensive about using Proactive.

Something I have been noticing is that lately (for the past months) I've had my chin full of them little fu**ers, maybe that's why. And I haven't really changed anything in my life, routine, etc. I really don't get this hormone thing, can it be caused by stress? Maybe excess of boredom?

If it doesn't get better after this week, then you need to lower the amount you use. I started using everyday twice a day, then I cut down to once a day and now I'm at once every other night and that works perfectly. I only use the mask to zap any zits I may get and I never use the cleanser.

I'm glad to hear you're seeing a difference.

Claudeth tried Pro Active and it didn't work either. She changed her diet and that gave the best results.
