This is me absolutely being nutty about things, but I just booked tickets for my wife (and new puppy) to go to Florida for the Thanksgiving holiday. My wife has a DC driver's license - thank goodness that got done - that does say 'temporary' on it but is valid until March 2023. I booked the tickets under her married name, but I just want to make sure the license is sufficient to show at TSA. Upon scanning it will they also need the passport or AOS I-797 proof because she's still a foreign national?

Thank you kindly! I presume I know the answer but I have 24 hours to correct the mistake if there is one :)

Valid state DL is enough for domestic travel.  No need to present passport if she has unexpired DL.  Make sure to bring the I-485 receipt notice, but no need to present at the airport if not asked.  Ticket name should match the name on the ID to be presented.

Thank you! We'll have the I-485 receipt just in case, then. The receipt has the married name on it anyway, so even that agrees. I've heard funny things about TSA not knowing what a DC driver's license is, though, so hopefully nobody gets confused.

@slavaskii is her DL a Real ID? If so, no problem travelling on it.

Thank you for pointing this out - there's a star in the top right, so I'm 99% sure it's a Real ID. It was only issued last month, anyway, and I don't think DMVs are issuing non-Real IDs anymore.

She should be good to go with her driver's license, but in the 0.01% chance that she encounters a TSA agent who doesn't know how to handle a DC driver's license, maybe you can look into CLEAR, which uses biometric scans instead of ID to confirm passengers' identities.
