I keep hearing that we do not need a war on drugs.  Anyway, silver lining, maybe parents will stop letting their kids eat candy.

 

12,000 fentanyl pills found packaged in candy at LAX TSA checkpoint

Authorities are encouraging parents to double-check their children's Halloween candy following a massive fentanyl bust at Los Angeles International Airport.

 

Authorities on Wednesday seized approximately 12,000 suspected fentanyl pills that were found disguised in several popular Halloween candy brands at the California airport.

 

Authorities found the dangerous opioid inside boxes of Sweetarts, Skittles and Whoppers, officials said.

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The first  time I heard of a Halloween Candy scare, I was so shocked I fell off my dinosaur.  
 

Don’t know why people would put fentanyl in Candy they hand out to kids or why they think the police would need less than a day to narrow down the perpetrator to one of a half dozen houses.

It really depends on what the plan was for these items.  Were the pushers planning to put these on store shelves for some unsuspecting consumer to purchase (just like the Tylenol incident), or hand them out themselves?  I tend to think the first option.   As to why, well these drug dealers want to create more customers.

I think  they were concealing narcotics to sell on the U.S. market

Exactly.  A mass distribution to get people hooked wouldn't be a smart plan.  As stated above, too many potential future customers would end up killing themselves when gorging on the candy.

 

Smuggling for profit, period.
