Now there does seem to be some weird cases where it is the date you mailed it, or you have some time for it to arrive, or you screwed it up and get a second chance but there is no reason to allow those.

Sure, but ballots sent via mail may get there early because of drop boxes or late by the postal service even if it is postmarked correctly. So what do they do with them? Hold them and don't count them until election day, or count them early and store the tabulation somewhere safe. My county's republicans argued it had to be counted on election day otherwise the early tabulation might leak (guys the majority of the candidates in this county are unopposed shoe-ins.. everyone knows who is winning anyway). They lost that case, but then insisted the workers simply would not have enough time to count everything on election day... and here we are many many days later and they still haven't finished because apparently they only work a couple hours a day. Counties that counted early got the results completed fast and nothing leaked.

If I was going to do it, which of course will not happen.

 

All the ballots have to arrive by whatever time the polling stations close. If you want to trust USPS your choice.

 

Empty all the bins and start counting, I am old school and am used to a big hall full of tables, no doubt scanners would be quicker.

 

I am not sure why spoilt ballets seem to be such an issue in the US, happens in the UK, happens everywhere but should be easy enough to have a standard they need to meet.

 

With a Federal election I would also have one system.

 

Americans like competitions so have one to see how fast results can be produced. 24 hours max should be allowed.

This is my concern too. There were people denied voting when they arrived when the polls opened.  Most of those would have been GOP voters.  It’s a tainted  win for sure.

I always loved the argument that any early counting tallies would leak, so what.  It is the same argument that the East Coast numbers get called too early affecting the vote in the West.  Whatever.  What I do not understand is why don't they at least verify the voter and their eligibility as soon as they receive a ballot so if there are any issues, the ballot can be cured, or discarded.

And now the Governor election in Arizona has narrowed, and Lake is on the cusp of forcing a recount.

On the bright side, Lake had enough coat tails to flip two house seats in what is now a blue state. MAGA power. The two pickups weren’t even close: 9 point margin and another the gop ran unopposed (bizarre).  Only 3 of 9 house seats from blue Arizona went blue, thus flipping the delegation to red. Looking forward to at least 2 years or grid lock and mask mandates in my state of residence.
 

GOP now has 216 in the house. 12 states left to call.  In California GOP leads in 4 seats. Boebert in Colorado not called yet but I think it is a lock. Some would say GOP has 15 to 1 odds in favor of taking House but after seeing Laxalt’s 2 point lead get erased, I’m not buying it.  

 
 

 

A contest in California with fewer than 70 percent votes case was called for the GOP, and so RCP has reported the GOP won the house. I’m elated but puzzled. I figured with 99 percent report, Boebert in Colorado would be the 218th and yet this just drags

out day after day.
