Does anybody know what exactly is the NVC"s job descrption? what part do they play in getting a visa if youre already approved. ..Just wondering.

If you’re at the NVC phase, you’re not approved for a visa.   Just the petition is approved, which establishes the qualifying relationship, and that’s it.

NVC’s role in the process depends on the visa, but for spousal visas, it collects and approves required  documents, dispatches everything to consulates, and facilitates the consulate interview.

Generally speaking, there are three main entities involved in the immigration process:
- USCIS: they verify the petitioner documents and relationship to ensure that the petition is valid.

- NVC: they verify the applicant (intending immigrant). Their job is to guarantee all documents needed are there for the interview. That's why they request the affidavit of support forms, police reports and others.

- Consulate: they have access to all documents and have the final decision to either accept or deny a visa once the interview is done.

So as you see, each of these have their own role. Since there are so many visa types and documents for every country, it's necessary to split the process into multiple steps.

You'll want to look at cases for your particular consulate, through the portal here on VJ.  That will give you the best idea of the most current workflow for that consulate.

When you say "approved" do you mean that the petition was approved at the service center (for example:  Potomac, Nebraska, Texas etc), or that you are 'documentarily qualified,' now having submitted all of the supporting civil documents?

If the latter, I would expect the NVC to be dispatching your documents to the consulate and scheduling your interview within the next few months.  At that time the consulate will contact you with further instructions, as to scheduling the medical exam and obtaining police record, etc.

Has the petitioner yet submitted supporting documentation to the NVC, and had it all accepted, thus becoming "documentarily qualified"?

I don't know how long it will be.  In your online account, they will list the required documents for you to upload.  It will take several months for the documents to be reviewed.
