I have had illness in my family to where I wont be able to make the biometrics appointment that is scheduled for this monday the 23rd. It says that if I dont show up that the case will be abandoned. I can reschedule the appt but must mail the original appt letter back to the uscis office. Im going to overnight it so they can get it on Saturday but they are not open on Saturday. So they will get the letter on Monday the day of my appointment. Im worried as I dont want my application abandoned. When does the USCIS office offically report that a case is abondoned due to no show? Do you think if they get the letter by monday on my appointment there wont be any issues? Please help...im stressing here.

Best to show up if there is anyway you can. It only takes about 20 minutes.

Try to see if you can talk with someone from the office where you have the biometrics to explain your situation and say that you are sending the papers as required but you just want to warn them and make sure it's ok because you are really stuck.

Is there no way you can have someone else help with the illness in your family so you can go?

No there is no way for me to make this appointment. I dont know the phone number to the USCIS New Orleans office. I will call the 1800 number and let them know. I hope nothing goes wrong or they abandon my case. I just need some time....

The 1800 number is often being called the misinformation line... So ask them to give you the New Orleans number and contact them by yourself. I wouldn't trust them if I were you. Too risky.

Can't you send someone to your appointment to explain why you can't come and bring a letter from you explaining the situation? That way you are sure that the immigration people will know it there, on the right day. I'm not sure it would do any difference, but anything is worse a try so they don't consider that you are giving up on your application...

Just spoke with someone at the number on the appt letter. They said it was ok for me to miss my appointment and mail it off today. As long as when they recieve it they can see a post date on there prior to the appointment letter than they are ok. I also found out that they have sunday delivery or pickup. So the appt letter will be there saturday and someone should get it either sun or early morning on monday.

How long is the process to get another appointment setup? I asked if I could walk in and they told me no I needed an appointment. I cant walk in anymore anyways as I had to mail the original appt letter back to new orleans.

The USCIS is very protective of their phone numbers, so don't expect to get one. Since you are mailing back your original appointment letter, you will have to wait for them to send you a new letter. That shouldn't be too long, but when is tough to determine.

Whatever happens, don't miss the next appointment.
