WHO OUTWEIGHS WHO NOW YOU JERK! (you know, just in case he still reads VJ) :innocent:

I bet it's still you.

What makes you say that?

and no, it's not. When he moved here he gained about 50 lbs. After we separated and divorced, to date I've lost over 60 lbs. So he now outweighs me by about 75-100 lbs.

Life long Texan, living in Hull, UK. How did this happen?

11 January - We met online and became friends

4 February - Became a couple

17 March - I went to Hull to meet the guy

20 March - First "I love you"

25 March - I go home :(

16 November - He comes to visit me in Texas

25 November - he leaves back home :(

14 December - ENGAGED! <3

1 March- I fly off to see my babe in Hull

4 April - I go home :(

9 October - He comes back to Texas!!!!

13 October - WEDDING!!!

22 October - He goes back to England and I continue to wait for my settlement visa.

13 December 2007 - Move to England

Now the wait begins, I will become a citizen then we will DFC back to the US.

Wow - that's great. Losing 60lbs is not easy. Gaining 50lbs is.

He just wanted me to weigh 90 lbs and anything more than that was too big for him.

Look, there's no denying that many odd pairings occur within the 'marrying a foreign spouse' circle...and when a casual observer sees such a pairing, combined with the fact that the foreign spouse is coming from an impoverished country, of a humble existence (rudimentary education, no sustaining career in home country), it's easy to understand why it makes people wonder.

...but there's plenty of odd couples where both spouses are US citizens.

I'm confused. Perhaps it's because it mentions the foreign spouce coming from an impoverished country...

In my own case... my husband came from the Netherlands which is hardly impoverished. He had completed some college education and his family had more money than I could imagine seeing in my entire life.

I guess it just makes me feel uncomfortable that people assume the worst of others. I'm older than my husband, and overweight, but that doesn't matter to him, or to me.

Sorry...I was trying to get at the heart of the OP's question - where the couple just look odd together (don't look like they belong together). It's hard to describe it but I was admitting that there are couples whom I've seen that don't look like they fit, but didn't necessarily have to do with a contrast in weight difference. For example a 6 foot tall woman with a 5 foot tall husband...at least from an initial glance most people do a double-take. :star:

I'd hardly say that height difference would make anyone question if anybody was being used.

I think it's a bit unfair to just put this on the American women...I mean how many older men have hot women? That doesn't even have to be a USC/non-USC situation because sometimes the levelling factor is money, success, etc....but there are pairs that LOOK like '(s)he must have a lot of money' lol.

Yes, it's superficial. But we do live in a superficial world, people will notice and even think it to themselves...pretending it doesn't exist does not make it so.

This thread kind of reminds me of jimi in love. Anyone else remember that guy?

From what I've seen around VJ, I think that snap judgments based on appearance and other superficial factors are made all the time at high fraud consulates.

I think the reality of it is that older less desirable men and women may choose to look for a foreign spouse because they feel they can find someone a little more attractive and younger than they could find here in the US.
