Well what happens when you click retrieve application and put in the details?

If you mean just a blanket report of all previous applications then surely the Embassy is the best contact to ask?

And lastly why do you even want it? Surely you filled out the DS160s yourself so should know all the answers you gave.

Thank you for the response which was not helpful to my question .I want all my past immigration documentation to assist my lawyer in knowing my immigration history with the USA .

I have no access to forms I did over 10 years ago and so I’m requesting freedom of information.

I have found out how to request you’re immigration record should anyone need too the link is https://foia.state.gov/Request/Checklist-VisaNI.aspx regardless of how basic the information is it will always be beneficial to you’re case and you’re lawyer to know you’re detailed immigration history even if it’s not negative.

That’s kind of odd, never heard of submitting applications being considered  part of immigration history. Actual visas received and trips to the US are the only things they ask details of when immigrating, not what you wrote on forms years ago.

(said as an immigrant with 4 previous B visas who’s been through the process)

Yes but you don’t need details of what was on your ds160!  You know what visa type was in your passport. You know your trips from your passport. The only reason to ask for details of what was in the 160 is either being worried something was false or lawyer trying to find more time to charge. I am the person who sought immigration benefits lol. Got my green card, then got my citizenship.  I know the process.

I send my expried passports to the HO passport office to be destroyed so i perosnally have no record of anything in my old passports.

I doubt my lawyer is attempting anything such as extra charges and nothing to my knowledge is false i purely want everything the government has and i am entiled to that information .

I mean yes but you’re going to an awful lot of trouble to just find out your own biographical details which is all that is really on the forms. The applications themselves are not visas and are not your travel history, so I am going to assume you have actually asked for those extra details as well and not just the application history as you said in the first post, otherwise the exercise is pointless as regards your ”immigration history”.

Yes I have detailed in the request extra information I’m requesting beyond biographical.

Just to clarify, a FOIA request for your visa applications will only provide you copies of the visa application and any documents or material that you submitted.  It will not get you any other information related to that application, such as the officer's case notes or information from the security checks.  That is,  you will get  back only what you provided, even if you include a request for "extra information" that falls outside what you submitted.

There are FOIA exemptions for material that may be protected from release by other federal laws. That is the case with visa records, as they are considered confidential under 222(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act.  Take a look at Section 5, Item 7 "Visa Records" -- you will need to scroll down to the end of the "Please Note" part -- on the State Department's FOIA website at https://foia.state.gov/Request/Guide.aspx#FreedomofInformationActFOIAFOIAExemptions.
