switch to a different consulate

My fiancee's consulate for K1 visa is in Romania. If we want a different consulate because my fiancee does not speak romanian, can I request a different consulate for example in Kiev or Moscow? How do I do it and is it possible? Thanks everyone!!!

They speak English at the consulate. Every consulate.

She can request to have the interview done at any consulate. I'm not sure what forms are required, but I remember on the K-1 (I-129F) there's a spot that asks "Embassy of beneficiary" or something to that effect. I don't think that's where you request which embassy you want the interview to take place, but that may be where you can add something to the effect of "reporting consulate in Romania, request interview in Moscow."

Someone else can probably steer you in the right direction, but I know it's possible to get the interview where you want it done.

She speaks russian. If she goes to Romania, she will have a language problem. I could go with her to the interview, but most likely they won't allow me at the embassy.

Since Romania is the designated consulate for Moldova, I have to belive they will have at minimum, a Russian speaking interpreter. E-mail the consulate and ask if Russian is an option for the interview for a Moldovan citizen.

I emailed the embassy few days ago and no response. They will probably tell me to hire an interpreter, what else can they say?

it is true you cannot choose where you have your interview (Olga's would have been in Vladivostok if that were an option!).

Perhaps you could phone the consulate/embassy...for a price =O

You are not the first person immigrating from Moldova! They'll surely have a Russian speaking official.

Don't mix Apples and Oranges. It is true on cannot choose to interview for a K at a consulate. Any consulate for that matter unless it has been designated to take K1 visas. However, one can embassy shop. Like Slim said, the first option is one the I-129F itself. One can easily be a citizen of one country yet be a legal resident of another for reasons such as being a refugee. Likewise, one can also change embassies at a cost of $200 and $340 after July 30 by filing an I-824 for action on an approved petition.

The criteria for getting one of these granted is not spelled out.
