Kill 17 humans, get one juror to dissent, and you get to live.  This has GOT to stop.  Murderers in cases such as Parkland need to die, period.

It is.  Beyond the shadow of ANY doubt.  But ONE juror didn't agree with the other 11, and this kid who decided he wanted to live after taking 17 of the 20 lives he planned to take gets his wish.

Maybe he'll get alternative punishment in prison that will make him wish for the death penalty.

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I heard a father of one of the victims in a radio interview that said he was fine with the punishment.  His logic after discussing it with corrections officials was that on death row, this trash would be heavily protected, kept from the other prisoners, and essentially waited on, and maybe in 10-20 years be executed.  As a lifer, he would be subjected to prison punishment..

I had the TV on yesterday and saw a bit of it, my thoughts some of which have been mentioned above

 

It took 3 months and god knows how many people to try this case.

 

So he sits in a box for the rest of his life, what is the point.

 

If he had been given the death penalty then this would not have happened anytime soon, what is the benefit of spending decades arguing the toss.

 

I thought it was an interesting commentary on how a society decides to spend its resources.
