I am a US citizen trying to bring my mother to the US and having a hard time going through NVC. NVC three times reviewed my documents and found them insufficient because we didn't have "birth certificate" in the file. Birth certificates don't exist in South Korea. I went to the state dept site and got the documents that substitute for birth certificate. I got through the phone line with NVC and also email inquiries - each time they gave me reasonable next steps but when I followed their direction, it got rejected every time. Now I contacted my senator (Kirsten Gilibrand of NY) but It has been 3 weeks since I submitted the casework and haven't heard a thing yet. My dad's case got approved with the same documents earlier this year. What else can I do in this case to move the case forward?

I have two recommendations. 1) write a letter without opinions and state the facts. Write the letter as basic as possible and upload it to the NVC and also submit it as an attachment as an inquiry. 2)contact the officr of your US congressman or woman. Since they represent less people they should be more readily available to assist. They have a direct email/phone number and can look into it quicker than the formal inquiry. Again, have the letter ready with  summary of events and your documents submitted. Good luck. I wives case was recently dq but the consulate appointment time is a year out. So system sucks.
