Saw that.  Martinez has resigned, effective immediately.  Calls are out for the others to follow suit.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

She resigned as president, she did not resign completely.  Personally, I am fine with her fighting this, she is just showing the true colors of the Democrat Party, and we need more of that in the open.

Democracy Now is Ultra Progessive 'media' source and it is interesting to see their take, to nobodys surprise there is a lot of division under the big tent with different groups angling for power.

They all need to go. This kind of language is unacceptable, no matter who is saying it, no matter if it's against a child or an adult. I am embarrassed that I voted for Kevin DeLeon to replace Feinstein a few years ago -- I thought he would have been a decent replacement for a political dinosaur. Not anymore.

 

The City Council meeting today was full of people demanding their resignation now. Not a single voice has been heard here today in support of them, or even for them to stay on until something can be figured out. 

 

I haven't lived strictly within the city limits since I was 5, but I have spent most of my life in cities surrounding it (Burbank/Pasadena/Santa Monica), but it's widely known that the council is just not fit for purpose. There are only 15 members for a city of 4 million people. The number of districts hasn't grown since the 1920s when there were only about 600k people! There are political dynasties, and power is entrenched. It's nearly impossible to break through as an outsider, which leads to people getting too comfortable with each other. Which leads to... this junk. 

 

I am not sad that Bonin chose to retire but he and his family don't deserve this. Nor do any of the Oaxaquenos or other indigenous people who live in this city. Colorism is real, and it's not restricted to any particular group.

Compare that to the US House of Representatives.  LA, about 266k per Council member, the US House, about 760k per House member.
