I have let my computer get old and in need of an upgrade. About 1 year ago my motherboard died on me and I replaced it with a Asus MB and an Athlon 2.1GHZ processor. At the same time my video card died. So at this time I am using the new MB and just using the onboard video. The biggest problem I am having is the memory. I am still using the old 512Mb PC2100 DDR memory stick. I want to upgrade that. The book says I can use PC3200 memory on my new MB. I have found some online but I don't understand some of the features of the memory.

What I am looking at is some PC3200 DDR 2GB memory. It says that it is Non-ECC and Non-registered. What does that mean? It is very cheap ($84)but I want to make sure it will work.

Who is the manufacturer? $84 for a 2GB stick is pretty cheap. You might want to check out newegg.com. They have good prices and reviews for much of what they sell so it will give you a good idea of what you are buying. Good thing about newegg is that if the piece goes bad, they replace it with no hassle.

The above specs should not really matter for the average PC user. Just look for a decent brand.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

That is a good buy! I also recommend newegg.com. A friend of mine just bought 2x512 PC3200 DDR for 70plus buck. The 2gig'r you got is a good deal. If your MB can support that memory, stick it in. Here is a good website to ask your question about memory features. I copied some of the answer. Hope this will you understand.

"ECC is good and damn near essential (ECC = error correcting code, i.e., SELF-error correcting) Parity is a technique by which simple errors are caught and corrected (partity is synonomous with ECC) As for registered memory, this just means that there is an additional chip on the module (typically mounted sideways) and boosts the signals running to and from the module (kinda like a filter); it also does some retiming as needed. This additional 'filtering' takes one clockcycle so if ur crazy for clock-cycle savings then this is not your option. Registered memory is important when it comes to servers setups and the like. Buffered is synomous with registered. For most people ECC, non-buffered memory is the way to go."
