Hi everyone, Id like to know if this will be a problem: When we were applying for a marriage license, the woman asked us all the typical questions, one of them was what our occupations were. My wife said she wasnt currently employed because she was not authorized to work in the US yet but her occupation field is interior design. She graduated from design school in december.

So the woman put down Interior designer as her occupation but will this be a problem since she is still unauthorized to work and on her forms for AOS whenever it asks her current occupation, we put "None"? Then on the marriage certificate it states she is an interior designer. Plus she did not take up any work in the field in her home country in the short time since her graduation and her moving here so theres nothing on her g325a about it.

My wife and I talked about it and shes under the impression that its her field of occupation and what she intends to do as soon as shes authorized to work and that it wont be a problem but i am concerned about it. thank you for reading!

That's the marriage license, it won't be that precise on the marriage certificate.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the marriage certificate only shows like your name, DOB, date and location of marriage, it won't state what your occupation is, that's irrelevant to a marriage certificate.

So don't worry about it. You'll send a copy of the certificate, not the license.

I received a marriage certificate from our Pastor on the day of the wedding but wondered if it would be enough cause it didnt look very official. then I called the courthouse to check into it and they said I needed the one with the official seal on it, so I picked it up today and it has all the information on it from when we applied for the marriage license.

Thanks for your replies. I dont think it will be a problem, but you never know with these guys..They can be extra picky about minute details. Especially since there isnt anything about it in all the immigration formswe filled out. She did however put down the name of her design school down when they asked for her education history back at the k-1 level. so hopefully all is well..

Occupation and current employment status are two different things

YMMV

Our marriage licence and marriage certificate are actually the same thing - the marriage licence became the marriage certificate when the judge & clerk signed it (if that makes sense)... and yep, it does have our occupations (well, mine is 'none') on it.

Doubt it will cause a problem, though, to be honest... that's just my opinion, rather than an educated answer, however!

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

I guess it depends on the states...

In our case we have an "application, license and certificate of marriage" with our names, parent's name, address, education (highest grade completed) and signatures from us, the magistrate and the witnesses.

Then we went to the register of deeds and they made a copy of that document for us, as well as giving us a Certificate of Marriage on green paper, with the information I mentioned on the first post.

I would think that since the information mentioned on the certificate are different (occupation wise) from one state to the other that the USCIS doesn't care too much. They just want to make sure you got married legally.
