I-129F Application Status Timing

Hello All.

I sent in my I-129F form back in early February and it was received on Feb. 7th. I checked the status of my case just a week ago and it still says that it has only been received.

Does anyone know how many status updates these applications usually get? It has been over 8 months and I would have hoped to have seen a change or something by now.

Does anyone know how many status changes the I-129F application might get? Will it suddenly go from "Received" to "Approved" or "Scheduling Interview," or am I supposed to receive something in the mail giving further instructions.

I'm just getting a little worried that something is wrong, or maybe it really does just take this long for it to move passed the "Received" status.

Any input is appreciated.

Timeline

You won't get any notification from USCIS until your I-129F is either (a) approved or (b) RFE'd (request for evidence). Currently, processing time is 14 months, so if that time stays consistent, you should expect one of those updates in your portal in April. However, I believe the current statistic is that USCIS is receiving 2x more petitions than they can adjudicate per month (don't quote me, thought I saw this in another thread), so it's quite likely the 14 month estimate will increase.

The USCIS portal also won't ever change from 'approved' to 'scheduling interview.' Interview scheduling is done by the Embassy overseas, which will involve an entirely different platform (usually USTravelDocs). Once you're approved, it'll stay on "Case Was Approved" indefinitely.

I recommend joining your fellow February compatriots here.
