Filling out the form I-129F, I came across the section about meeting through an IMB. I answered "no" because we met on a dating website which is not a marriage agency. However, do I need to provide any kind of evidence that the website is just a dating app and not a marriage agency?

1. Don’t mention that you found each other  on a dating site

2. Unless the dating site is for fee and the primary purpose is to match foreigners to U.S. Citizens / LPRs it is not an IMB

3. if it is a well known dating site I doubt it will come up.

4. print the terms and conditions of the website to prove it is not an IMB and keep these handy for any RFE or any questions at the K-1 interview

5. reconsider the K-1 route as it is no faster and it is less convenient for the alien spouse. IOW get married this week and do IR-1

1. But we need to describe where and how we met, right?

2. It's a free dating app for people from all over the world.

3.quite well-known

5. What if we apply for K1 now and get married later this year? Will we have to reapply for CR-1?

Have you considered reaching out to the site's support team and ask them to state that they are not an international marriage broker?

Alternatively, is there a disclaimer or about section of the site that you can use?

No, just when and where.  I-129F doesn’t provide enough space for life story. Just enter range of dates and place where you met for each qualifying meeting.

Yes.  Just get married this week, online if necessary, meet up, then file I-130/I-130A

Whichever route you take (K1 vs CR1), please be as truthful as possible, since this could come up in an interview and it could become a red flag if it is not stated that you met on a dating app but it is found out later during the process.  There are lots of cases in VJ that met through apps and saying that was never an issue.

My husband and I met online gaming.  So, when I applied for the K1, I mentioned we met online.  However, within the packet I included an additional letter where I stated what the IMBRA is per the USCIS website.  Then, proceeded to show why and how the online gaming platform was NOT that.  Finally, I attached the terms and conditions and all the other documents available (which the dating app you used should have) that explain the services provided.

You can say in the letter that it is a free app that both of you freely and willingly began using in the hopes of finding love (to highlight it was not to find just ANY relationship).

I hope this helps.

Meetings occur in person, not online. My wife and I found each other on a web site.  I didn’t mention it in I-129F because I-129F doesn’t ask for that.

At the K-1 interview the CO asked if he found either other online and that was the extent of it.

My wife and I started talking on a dating site too, and then met in person.

When the paperwork asked how we met, I simply stated we met online. Then, in my affidavit of our meeting, I explained the site, how we started talking, then met, then onward and upward.

It was never looked at beyond what it is. So many people meet online now, USCIIS knows which sites are IMB and which are just plain-old dating sites.

It would be awfully naïve of us to think that they don't have investigators checking out these sites, to see what goes on there.

Just be as honest as you can, and you'll be ok. :)

Download the terms of service from the dating website- this is good evidence for USCIS. Include in your K1 visa package.
