Years ago SSN's were given for the asking so could well have a SSN, does not mean anything.

Remember it would be him, not be applying.  Why would you say again he needs to disclose it, isn't this common knowldege on this forum for most?

Incorrect.  He would be applying.  DS-260, or I-485 if he gets PIP.

I am still trying to figure out how OP thinks “ remote area …closed jail “ means records vanish  ( Court records, the Federales involved for felony) for what was likely an attempted murder conviction …not to mention that  US/MX have a strong behind the scenes cooperation agreement on security/criminal backgrounds.

Personally, I think this one has a lot of issues to make the parents legal.  Definitely not a DIY case, and will require a very competent lawyer well versed in these types of scenarios.

There is a family came here from Mexico about 22 years ago, brought 5 kids with them, had a set of twins that were born in the USA, they are set to turn 21 soon.

Can they petition thier parents, they all live in Texas.

This is absolutely ridiculous....no wonder the immigration process is so hard for the rest of us....

What is the purpose of filing?

They have been living in the U.S. for 22 years. What would they gain now? Why open up a can of worms and possibly be deported?

My money is on ITIN...

I think that's what they have and might be calling it "SSN." I mean, both come from SSO anyway 🤷🏽‍♂️

He has a Social Card with SSN, I verified yesterday.  He was actaully working on a horse ranch near Austin before he brought his family over here, So I suspect the SSN is older then 20 years.

He said his sister and brother was able to get SSN as well.

I keep hearing them say they want "thier papers" which is either a greencard or US Citizenship.  If they got US Citizenship they could drive a car legally in Texas, instead of now having to drive and always worry about getting pulled over and get ticket, I would think they could maybe petition their other 5 kids, they could go back home to Mexico to visit families.

Deportation won't happen as long as they are married and have kids in the USA, it highly unlikely unless they committed a serious felony like Murder, Kidpnapping, etc.  They have one son they are dealing with right now and had to hire criminal/Immigration attorney and that is what he told them.

The implications of actions long ago continue for even longer into the future.  I do not imagine that the parents would have forseen the complicated life situation that they now face, when they made their decisions 20 plus years ago.  Im sure they were driven by the common heart of parents .. wanting better for their children …

But.. you dont “ get your papers” this way .. no matter what drives the initial

decisions unfortunately.. this is a painful

mess for them all and untangling the web is not going to be quick easy or cheap .. if it can be done at all. 😓

What complicated about thier life?  They have a huge new house in the USA, many new vehicles mostly trucks, they have 5 horses they keep at  ranch, they have kids and family and life, Where do you get their life is complicated?  They all make pretty good money working in Texas. They take yearly vacation usually to Florida.  They live a pretty darn good life here. I suspect most of the sons make more per year than you do, since I employee them.

To me it seems pretty easy to get 'Your Papers" going thru USCIS, seems as if they have many loopholes and waivers geared toward people who came here illegally but have lived in the USA a long time.

I don't see them getting waivers just because "they've lived here for long." The only silver lining is one of their kids can now petition for them. It'll take time and $$ to untangle the web. It's doable. I'll encourage the kid to go online and prepare the I-130 submission and have it ready. As soon as kid turns 21, wait 2 days just to be safe and then hit the submit button

And they cannot be given citizenship because they've stayed here for long too and have no criminal history.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

The options suggested you have knocked down, so what is the plan?

Only the things you have commented on .. complications when encountering the law enforcements , driving and always trying to not draw law enforcement attention, not being able to legally document children, not being able to visit family in Mexico, wanting “papers”. Maybe they choose to let sleeping dogs lie and not push the “wants”.
