Great thread, I'm a couple months out from filing the N-400 also! @Crazy Cat what did you say in your letter to request your combo interview briefly?

I didn't write anything fancy.  I just stated the basic facts that we filed the I-751 in March 2019, ready for an interview since May 2019...no RFEs, etc.  I hope it works.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Our letter is not going to be fancy either.  It starts off as trying to be informational indicating we have a pending I-751 (and the case #) with the final sentence asking what the possibility would be...?  That sort of thing.

Did you see my post at the top of this thread?  Would you be able to weigh in?  Does it seem like we have it all?  Did you send in basically the same documentation?  Thanks in advance for any perspective.  🙂

That is basically what we uploaded.  The online application guided us pretty well.  I think I uploaded the tax transcripts and interview request as Unsolicited evidence.  I think the most time-consuming part of the process was collecting the out-of-country exit and entry dates for my wife's trips.  On-line application, overall, was extremely easy.

Green Card Front
Green Card Back
Previous Marriage termination documents for both of us
Tax transcripts 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021
Our marriage certificate
Combo Interview Request

I'm barely getting around to filing the N-400 even though my window opened up back in October.....

Quick question.

When filing online, were you able to verify your identity when creating an account? This question has come up on numerous occasions but the answers seem to always be repetitive and don't really solve the issue. Where did you get you DOS ID? The A Number is easy to find but the DOS ID is a complete mystery.

When this question is asked it's always the same answer "it's located on your Visa Stamp" or simply copy and paste the instructions listed on USCIS's website. The problem lies in that I came on a K-1 so the Visa Stamp I have looks nothing like what's pictured in examples. There is no IV Number or anything remotely close to a DOS ID. I don't have an Immigrant Visa Fee Handout either nor do I have an immigrant data summary so where the heck am I supposed to find this thing??

Is the answer that I just simply just skip that part and file the N-400 online without it? It seems like I can go ahead and start the process of filing your N-400 online.

Because we submitted the N400 through my wife's online account I don't recall anything in the way of identity validation.  We did this almost two months ago so perhaps I have forgotten something but nothing jumps out.  Also, DOS ID... never heard of it and I don't believe it came up in any of the online questions for the N400.  Surprisingly, I found the online N400 to be fairly intuitive.  The key is to be prepared.

I would recommend having the following on your computer... in PDF format... for attachment in the appropriate section.  You should have this all done in advance for when you start the N400.  Also, if she has traveled internationally in the last 3-5 years try and dig up the departure and arrival dates, country(ies) visited, etc.  This will make the process go very smoothly for you.

Assuming you are the U.S. citizen...

1. Front and back of her Green Card

2. Her Green Card extension letter

3. Your birth certificate

4. All divorce decrees (if applicable)

5. Your marriage certificate

6. Your tax transcripts for the last 3 years (you can get these online at the IRS website)

7. Mortage or, if you rent, your last 3 leases

8. Last 6 months of bank statements from your primary checking account.  That should be enough for now and then just bring more to the interview when it happens

9. Declaration Page for the last two years for auto, home/renters insurance contracts (attach more if you have them)

10. A short note alerting them to your pending I751 (including the case number) if this applies to you.  You should do this so they are aware you would like a combo interview at your local field office.  If you don't have a pending I751 then this obviously doesn't apply

You can pay one of two ways:

1) Credit card

2) ACH transaction directly from your checking account

Слава Україні !!!

Awesome! Appreciate the detailed information.

I can still go thru the whole N-400 process online despite not having verified my identity as I am going through the process now. The part that bugs me I guess is the area section from the N-400 process within your USCIS profile where you verify your identity that is weird. If you go to your wife's USCIS profile under the My Account drop down you'll notice there is a link that says "Verify Your Identity".  You can see if yours is filled or not, I'm just curious. I don't think you actually have to fulfill it to do anything.......

I see what you mean.  I never noticed that before.  This was not an issue for our N400 online.
