Hello. I just had a quick question regarding police certificates. I've done a search here on VJ and I seen a previous post where a member was directed to the Metropolitan Police of London website to download a form http://www.met.police.uk/dataprotection/ Is this the same form for everyone? Sorry if it sounds a bit thick..but there were members posting from Scotland, and all over the UK...I just didn't know if everyone uses the same form or what not. My fiance works right next to the Police Station in Preston ...so it's not a problem getting one..lol...he just wants to know before he goes in if there is a specific form he needs to take with him to have them fill out or if they can do it there.

My fiance mailed his in, but the form can be completed and dropped off at the local police station. This bit about the form is relevant to your situation:

Police National Computer Form (Form 3019B)

This form relates to information that may be held about you on the Police National Computer, such as details of convictions, cautions and warnings. This type of check is usually required for visa, work or immigration purposes.

If you do not live or have never lived in the London Metropolitan area, please apply to the Police Service that covers the relevant region or area.

Thank you for your quick response! Now to find his local police station..lol...

Oh Bloody Typical....

www.police.uk & www.online.police.ukUnfortunately the www.police.uk service is not available at present. Please contact your local force regarding Police Direct and other police messaging services.

A new system has been developed and is currently being tested. In the interim, if you want to report a Hate Crime or a non-urgent, minor crime please contact your local force. If there is any danger or risk to life, or a crime is in progress, please dial 999.

Any personal information that has been supplied by members of the public will be retained by the NPIA solely for use in the new, or any interim, service.

Updated 13 July 2007.

That's similar to the form my fiance had to fill out, but not identical. He filled this one out online and printed it ( http://www.northants.police.uk/survey/form164.aspx ), but when he took it to the police station they handed him another one (he said it was the same form) and told him to fill it out and mail it an address they gave him. He just sent them the one he printed. Yesterday he received a letter that said they had forwarded it to Scotland Yard and he should hear about it within 40 days.

This is the form to use (from the embassy's website):

http://www.met.police.uk/dataprotection/forms.htm

That is the Met Police form and has all their waffle on it, other forces have their own and are not required to accept one issued by another force.

Of course they all eventually end up in the same place but that has nothing to do with the wheels of bureaucracy, even the one for the Met have to be sent to Empress Building and they send it on to NSY.

What to expect at the POE - WIKI entry
