Hello everyone,

I am about to submit my I-864. My mother is cosponsoring my wife as we both live in China so my income does not qualify. My question is, can my mother's state ID be use as Proof of Status when I am adding her as a Joint Sponsor on the CEAC website? It isn't given as one of the examples to use.

If not, we can use her passport but she remarried a couple years ago and changed names. Would I need to add her marriage certificate later to proven the reason for a name change?

I appreciate any advice you can.

Thank you

Jared

  • you will be listing her name now and all former names used on the I 864 form she fills out and SS # never changes so (only my opinion) but the marriage certificate would not be needed to show name change

I have the I864 in front of me know. Where is she supposed to fill out former names?

It's not listed because state ID is not an acceptable proof of USC/LPR status.  If your mother has a US passport, submit a scan of the bio page as proof of US status.
