He's fine.  He got some middle-band winds and rain, I believe.  Nothing like the 125 mph winds that Fort Myers received around 5 pm earlier tonight.  No electricity or internet, and cell signal is weak, but I'll keep checking on him as time goes on.

The problem with Florida is that it is so flat.  Here is the current position and you can see that it is still strong even though it is over land.  It is still sucking power from both oceans.

I live in Subic Bay and we are protected when the typical East to West typhoon comes through.  There are lots of mountains to dampen the storms.

No, I'm in the Philippines.  Had that house as a rental for almost 15 years until I sold it in 2020.  Still vote there though.  I was just chatting to the Broward County registrar about getting my ballot.

For all I criticized our local warnings in Collier, I think DeSantis continues to do a fantastic job managing this thing. The state feels very prepared overall, and I’m continuously surprised at how well emergency services are functioning. It feels like everyone had what they needed. 
 

Again, I hate harping on this point, but the Euro models were correct again. I really hope people bear this in mind for the next one and don’t only rely on what NOAA publishes.

We are fine.  Had some flooding last night, and some winds today, but nothing alarming.  Part of the problem is that it has rained here nearly every day for nearly 20 days, and the ground is saturated, so the water drains VERY slowly.  I am lucky where I live, but just 2 miles from me, people have been under 4-6 inches of water.

This makes a difference.  Looks like your city is ~7' above sea level; are houses elevated above that, as I imagine would make sense?

 

During Hurricane Harvey here, it was pretty consistent that the areas below sea level flooded and those above did not, so much.  Of course, that was a rain event without storm surge, etc.

Not elevated at all.  In fact, living on a canal, we are constantly about three feet away from a flood.  Make that 18 inches during King Tides.

I was out in West Pembroke Pines very near 27 and The Everglades.  Off of Pines Blvd.  Back then, I was a cycling fanatic, and I rode many miles all over over that flat terrain.  Great for cycling, not so great for storms!  The only hills were overpasses!  I worked at 595 and University, so I spend a lot of time in the Davie area.

 

You may recall that we were planning to move to the U.S.  It is still on the table but no timeline now.  If Brandon & Co. are gone, maybe it will be more attractive and affordable to make the move.  I did consider FL, but I think it is off the table now.

Yup, it may be slightly above sea level but flat, flat, flat, with canals and lakes all over.  The same all over that area.  At my house in Pembroke Pines, The foundation was elevated a bit, but when the storms came, the storm drainage could not handle the volume, and the streets would flood.  The worst I got was a bit of water in the garage one time, for a very short time.  When I bought the house, it was in a flood zone, but they later said it was not.
