"Renewing" I131

Does anyone have experience in getting another I131 Reentry Permit after the first one expired? I understand that you can't renew it, but have to apply for a new one.

My permit expires on Nov 24 2022, we applied for it in april 2020, just before the pandemic struck, and had to wait 6 months until we got them.

googling the procedure, it seems that we need to go back to the US, File the I131 together with our old re-entry permits. Go back home and wait for the biometrics appointment. 

Attend the biometrics appoinment and hopefully the green passport will be approved

You need to return, reapply and wait in the US until biometrics are either completed or waived.  Once the biometrics are done,  you can leave and request the permit be sent to the consulate where you will pick it up. No need to wait for approval
