Mary, thank you for the information! I really appreciate it!

I'm confused on the Packet 3.5. Does the NVC mail that or the Islamabad embassy? Embassy will mail it to your wife it is the instructions for the medical and police reports and what other documents they will need to schedule the interview.

If it is the Islamabad embassy, can you pick it up?Embassy told us to wait for it to come in the post. It was delivered within one month after the hard copy was matched up with the electronic copy. Go to my timeline and read it. I have every date listed out.

If it is the NVC, can my wife just drop it off at the embassy after they're finished? On the letter I have with the instructions says that you must submit it back via one of their specific couriers. Mian did not send me the list of couriers.

Can they get the police certificates ready in the mean time? Yes, if you wish to start getting them in order. They only took us about two weeks to get the two we needed.

know for the medical part, they'll have to wait for the packet 3.5.Yes correct

Once the documents are forwarded to the embassy in Islamabad, how long does it take for my wife to receive the packet 3.5? Ours was roughly one month from the time they matched both the electronic and hard copies. Both copies have to be matched to show it in the system for further processing.

I guess it is going to take some time for the NVC to forward the documents to the embassy in Islamabad.

Look at my timeline but they send them out in batches. Our cases we had two going at the the same time and the K3 got to the embassy and was cancelled by them since our CR1 arrived one week later. Roughly it takes one week if that long depending on when they ship it out. If it leaves at the end of the week the diplomatic pouches sit for two days then they move forward on their journey. I used DHL after the NVC told me when my case shipped and tracked it that way.

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showuser=12292 Go to our story and each date is specified from the start to finish of our journey. Good luck.

Everything I respond to is from personal knowledge, research or experience and I am in no means a lawyer or do I claim to be one. Everyone should read, research and be responsible for your own journey.

LOL I guess he will have to find another teacher for the math and sciences classes. :P

I know I fumbled my way and had already completed the process and was the only CR1 going thru Islamabad when I found VJ so I edited my timeline and waited on the embassy to send out the packets.

I took a look at your timeline. I have a few questions left.

Are you referring to the hard copy/electronic copy of the documents that are currently at the NVC?

So as soon as they are matched, the packet 3.5 will be sent?

You said "I used DHL after the NVC told me when my case shipped and tracked it that way. "

Did you forward the documents or the NVC?

If NVC, they ship all their mail through DHL? If I call, will they give me the tracking number?

As for the police certificates, is there a different requirement for everyone?

They don't have to wait for the packet 3.5 to get started on the police certificates?

Does it have the instructions on the packet that comes with the ds230 forms?

Thank you again, Mary! Sorry for swarming you with so many questions.

I took a look at your timeline. I have a few questions left.

Are you referring to the hard copy/electronic copy of the documents that are currently at the NVC?

When your case completes at NVC they send electronic copy of your paperwork to the embassy. They then forward the hard copy of all you submitted stateside via DHL and once it arrives at the embassy a staffer has to match to make sure all copies are there.

So as soon as they are matched, the packet 3.5 will be sent?Yes, within a few days

You said "I used DHL after the NVC told me when my case shipped and tracked it that way. "

Did you forward the documents or the NVC?NVC fowards the case to the embassy. I forwarded all of my copies and phone bills, and other proofs from my end once I completed at the NVC to my husband.

If NVC, they ship all their mail through DHL? If I call, will they give me the tracking number?

No they will not give you the tracking number. But I know how to track and will pm or email you the information.

As for the police certificates, is there a different requirement for everyone?

They don't have to wait for the packet 3.5 to get started on the police certificates? Yes, you can start on the police certificates if you wish early. Beware some providences only had a 90 day validity on them, others were for 6 months to one year.

Does it have the instructions on the packet that comes with the ds230 forms? Yes you will get a letter with the list of things to submit to the embassy along with the list of doctors for the medical. It has the DS-230 forms part 1 and II and you will have to refill out another part one to the embassy. This is what is considered packet 3.5 and packet 4 is actually the interview date letter.

Thank you again, Mary! Sorry for swarming you with so many questions. blush.gif

Hi Friends,

I am new to the forum and have read through many posts here. I really appreciate the community spirit on the forum and willingness to help.

I am an American woman engaged to an Afghan man. We met while I was working in Afghanistan. We both worked on the same USAID project. I had to return to the US because my assignment was over.

We applied for a I-129F visa and I just got notification that the NOV2 (petition) was approved. I am trying to anticipate the next steps so I was wondering if anyone had any experience. Btw, the embassy in Kabul only processes diplomatic visas so every other type of visa must be processed in Islamabad which is why I am on this forum.

I understand that my fiance will get a packet in the mail but Afghanistan does not have a functioning postal service and there is no DHL to Jalalabad where he lives. He could however designate a place in Kabul to have it sent for him to pick it up. I had my lawyer send a message to NVC about it. But I thought I would tap into some of the wisdom here in this form.

So here is my question: Does anyone know if they can send the packet out by e-mail or if they would email him notification of next steps? It seems that almost all communication is done through the post.

Thanks,

KJO

P.S. Mary, thanks for your email. I did a search for Omid and sent her an email through VJ.
