Today i recieved a call from a cell phone and person said he is from US embassy and he was verifying the addresses and telephone numbers that i provided in the forms.

Does this mean now they are doing admin processing in pk? or what? did this happen to others? especially Zaki and others with recently completed cases?

Aftab!

Together we can find a way, or make one!

Another question. I heard about some getting a sealed envelope to bring to the us with them. What's the deal with that? Does everyone get it, and what's in it?

The visa is given along with a sealed envelope of documents which must be given to the USCIS (INS) officer when entering the US. The visa must be used within 6 months of being issued.

Has anyone had their wife get approved for K-3 and lives in Karachi area? I was wondering how my wife will be notified to get her passport at AMX (Shaheen Complex), or do they deliver it to her home?

My wife lives in Karachi but we are on AP :(

My wife told me that her friend got a call from AMEX to come pick it up at Shaheen Complex

Looks like they are investigating your file and you are in AP at this time. Do not worry once they are satisfied they will continue on with the processing of your case. Some people have had phone calls, others have had home visits, others have had several visits and in most cases the persons being investigated does not even know that the embassy was checking unless a neighbor tells them or they have personal contact with the investigator. The gentleman thad did Mian's visit was very nice and sat and enjoyed tea and a snack at his home and then when he visited the married sisters he did the same, interview was like a friend coming to visit and not an interrogation.

Good luck and this means that they are working on your case now, too!

I was finally able to talk on the phone to a customer service rep. in embassy. (sent three emails, no reply yet). I tried using the urdu prompts, it never worked, so today i used english and was able to talk to someone. He told me that they have received the clearance from washington (I called washington two weeks ago and it was cleared) and now our case is in the final processing at the embassy and he said "Inshallah you will hear something from us in few days". I asked him approx. time, he said he can't say anything about that, but it will be few days. Does this happen to everyone or are we being treated SPECIAL.....lol. Also, he said we will hear from them in few days, what I have heard is that AMEX calls to pick up the passport and embassy doesnt call, anyone knows what that means, or hearing from us means getting a call from AMEX.

Thanks

Chicago hopefully it will be a few days but in some cases I have seen few days that have been alot longer. Like you said the embassy will not divulge anything about how long and they do try to make you feel special with their tidbit of information. LOL

In Mian's case the courrier office called him to come and pick up his passport and visa. He had to supply his ID card to verify whom he was and the embassy did not contact him anymore after they had him return with his passport after the AP was completed.

Inshallah you will have the visa soon.

A-O-A to everyone here!

It is a great forum. Congratulations to all those whose wife/husband just got visa and best of luck to those on AP. I hope all of you get the visa soon. I am reading all the posts and I am glad that you all are helping each other. My situation is that my case is still here in the US and therefore I am not putting any posts at this time. I just became a US Citizen and upgraded my wife's petition. I hope as soon as they upgrade it, they will approve it and send it to the NVC.

I will be very thankful if you folks can answer this very important question. Especially, I am asking to all those people who are married in Pakistan like me.

I got married in Feb 2004. When I file my tax return for 2004, I told the accountant that I am married in Pakistan, but my wife is not here/has never been here and obviously, she does not have SSN. he said that for IRS purposes, your are Single, so I filed as an single. I also met with another accountant just to verify and he said the same thing. For 2005 and 2006, I had another (new) accountant and she told me that it's up to me to file either Single or Married filing separately. To make a long story short, I have been filing single. Now, I was just reading on the forum somewhere that I should have filed "Married filing separately".

Also, I applied for citizenship after my marriage and I put it "married" in my N-400 application and my Naturalization Certificate also says "Married".

My whole concern (I am very worried), as u know, is that is it going to be a problem when she has her interview. Do I need to amend my Tax returns?? and do I need to get an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) for my wife from IRS.

People who are in the same boat, What did u folks do in this situation??? or if u know about somebody else??

Please reply. Thank you all!! regards, kim

I applied for my citizenship in Oct 2004 and put married on it, my cert says says I am married as well - again had no problems with that

I got married in 2003 and when I filed my tax return in 2004, I called IRS, they told me I need to apply for my wife's ITIN number and file as "Married filing Jointly". I have done that ever since without any issue with IRS or during Naturalization

I applied for my citizenship in Oct 2004 and put married on it, my cert says says I am married as well - again had no problems with that

You must write Married in your N-400 application form

ITIN is for people who are in the US

If you are already in US, as LPR you can apply for SSN. ITIN is for those who are in US and can not get SSN or spouses of USC or LPR living outside USA. Also if your kids are Canadian or Mexican citizen, you can apply ITIN for them and also claim them dependent in your tax return
