I will definitely consult with an attorney again. In my case the people I was afraid of are no longer in power since 2016. US government can verify and there no reason for them to approve asylum if it's no longer a threat.I agree with that. At that time I asked an attorney to remove and he said he sent a withdrawal letter. For me it was done until I consult another lawyer in 2018 and she checked my receipts and told me it was never removed. For her, it has to be removed in court which I didn't know. The first attorney messed me up at all level. I almost reported him.

I also went to Germany(not my country of origin) using AP in 2020 and came back with no issue.

Hey, if you withdraw your asylum before the IJ and received GC with other petition then good to go and even I saw so many people with asylum case pending married to usc and got GC then withdrew asylum and travel back and forth home country with no issues so if you ever get GC with asylum then it will be a biggest mistake to travel back home !!

Just because they approve and issue GC does not mean it cannot be revoked. Traveling back to your home country even After you get GC will be an issue.

I agree with that. It can be revoked.  However I have seen many people who had asylum pending and got their greencard via marriage or vawa, went home right after and came back with no issue. One of them told me he just notified asylum office he got a greencard and that's all. I am really confused about what to do with this case when I'll get the GC.

Thanks for your response.

Did any of them seek any immigration benefit? E.g. :

- Renewing GC

- N-400

- Sponsoring somebody for immigration benefit

How did it go?

you need to talk to an attorney. Even if you withdraw asylum petition and go home when you wrote you were afraid is considered fraud.

+100 the complicated immigration history (asylum + WAVA) + now potential travel back to country of origin will likely get scrutinized a lot. I wouldn't do it on my own, and would never travel back to that country again, but that's just me.

Unless @Zizigragnon you get a large complication of supporting reports from credible sources confirming the situation in the country changed radically since 2016, you're at risk on USCIS doubting your original asylum application. If they doubt asylum, nothing stops them from re-evaluating geniuity of your WAVA application. Everything is possible. So think twice and consult with lawyer to see if it's safe to travel back.

Understood. For sure there are multiple credible sources. But I won't travel now specifically with just vawa approved. That's definitely not a smart move.
