Hi all, I hope everyone’s year has gotten off to a great start. Im really struggling with this and I’m hoping someone will calm me down. @sandranj

My lawyer told me today that my interview will be on Monday (1/9). USCIS sent out the letter on 12/20. I  understand that it was the holidays but I’m so upset at the last minute heads up. I feel so unprepared. Im going over the list of documents they want and I don’t even know if I have all of them! I have to go home and check. I’m guessing they will want originals only and I can’t remember where my birth certificate or my marriage license are. What will happen if I don’t have originals? I also wanted to practice some interview questions with my lawyer and now I won’t have time to do that. I have to take Friday (prepare) and Monday off. I work in medicine, a last minute notice is very inconvenient.

Second, I was really really hoping to be approved without the interview. So many people have. So now I’m completely panicking  that they found something in my application that raised a red flag and that the interview will be really hard.

Finally, I apologize if I sound ungrateful. I am extremely grateful. I have been waiting for this day for three years and if i had even a week’s heads up, I would have been so excited. But 13 years of dreams and life here are contingent on this day and I feel so unprepared. Please give me your best advice and tips and perhaps reassurance that not getting interview waived isn’t a red flag. Oh and what to do if I don’t have originals.  Like I said, 13 years are on the line here and I’m so anxious 😕

Because I know I’ll be asked… I can’t remember the exact dates but I think this is pretty close:

485 and 130 were  filed together in Oct 2019

Interview scheduled for April 2020

interview canceled due to Covid.

i left my husband in May 2020

interview rescheduled to July 2020

Requested 485 to be held in abeyance and filed 360 in Sept 2020

i-360 approved in Oct 2022

Medicals requested Nov 2022

interview schedule notice Dec 2022

interview date Jan 2023

You can ask your attorney to reschedule the interview or go to the interview and if you don't have the original documents that you mentioned here then your attorney should  ask the USCIS to give you 15 days to submit the documents.

To bring my lawyer to the interview or not? I was initially planning on going in just by myself - I'm usually pretty good at interviews and employers have told me I keep things lighthearted and am easy to interact with so that's what I was planning to do. I thought maybe having my lawyer in with me would make things too formal and I like to be able to joke around lol. But of course now, I'm having second thoughts. This is, after all, the most important interview of my life. Thoughts?

You can go without your attorney, but please avoid making any kind of jokes with them.

Sunday -- time for our approval-evoking*, good-news-prompting* Official Weekly VAWA-Thread Joke:

*that is, if correlation = causation

=============================================

THE CONFESSIONS

While a man was dying, his wife was maintaining a candlelight vigil by his side.  She held his fragile hand, tears running down her face.

Her praying woke him from his slumber.  He looked up, and his pale lips began to move slightly.

"My darling," he whispered.

"Hush, my love," she said.  "Rest -- don't talk."

He was insistent.  "I have something that I must confess," he said in a tired voice.

"There isn't anything to confess," replied his weeping wife.  "Everything's OK.  Go to sleep."

The man blurted out, "No, no -- I must die in peace.  I... I slept with your sister, your best friend, her best friend, and her mother!"

"I know," whispered his wife.  "That's why I poisoned you."

The University of Houston has one of the top such programs.  Don't know if they're Title IV-eligible.

Hi guys,

I had my interview and I dont feel like it went well. They gave me an RFE because my birth certificate is from several years after I was born. I've seen others get this RFE in the mail. Why not just mail it to me too? Why call me in for an interview just to send me away again?  I'm so confused about what I'm doing wrong and so nervous.  I was really hoping to log back in today to share the good news :(

Regarding the RFE, I was going to go with an affidavit signed by my parents and my older sister. Do you think that will be enough? It will be hard to find records from 30+ years ago and I really want to send this in asap.

Would appreciate any advice! Thank you all so much!

*edit* This is what my status says now. I am so scared, what's going on?

Your interview for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, Receipt Number ----, was completed, and your case must be reviewed. We will mail you a notice if we make a decision or take further action.

Hey guys, glad to let you all know that I just returned to the US about 10 hours ago using my AP. I travelled to Nigeria since 21st December via Ethiopian Airlines with layover at Togo. They seemed familiar with the combo card as no unusual questions were asked. I got to CBP and officer referred me to secondary clearance after taking my fingerprints saying that I needed a stamp on my passport. He put my passport and another form in a transparent box, sealed it and pointed and said, "go to that officer". I got there and they opened another door and said "follow the red line" which took me to the secondary area. Handed the box over to the officer at a desk and she said "sit over there and please no phones". Because of the anxiety it felt like 1 hour wait but it was actually almost 30 minutes, my name got called and my passport and combo card handed back to me and I was shown the exit after which I went to baggage claim. I have been waiting for VAWA approval since February 2020 and haven't heard anything since responding to RFE in July 2022. Let me add my voice and say to all in this forum, if you have an AP, go ahead and take that trip, there is no problem. I doubted it for a long while but it's a good thing I took a chance and I am happy I did.
