If you Already Interviewed please comment on Tb test

To the people who have interviewed already can you kindly comment if in the interview you were asked about the tb test. As you can see there is so much discussion these days on if it is needed. Does a civil sugeon need to do it? etc.

So maybe you can begin your post with your interview date and location. Next can you comment on if you had it prior to the interview and if so who preformed it: a civil surgeon or other person. Then let us know if it was brought up in the interview and if you did not the Tb test were you given a RFE. And of course anything else that might be helpful on the topic.

We folks who haven't interview will be very appreciative to have this info in one place to easly decide on if we should consider getting it done prior to interviews and if so by whom.

I was interviewed in Cleveland OH on July 20'th and the interviewer didn't even bring up the medical exam for me. It could be different in other cities though!.

My interview was on August 23. I entered the U.S. on K3 (thus had a medical prior to being issued the K3) and the officer at my AOS interview did NOT ask for a TB skin test.

Sorry for the dumb question but what is that is tehre a new requirement for a Tb test?

Isn't the X-ray done at the medical sufficient as a proof?

Are we supposed to have this test done by a civil surgeon in US?

There isn't an official "requirement" for someone adjusting from a K1 or K3 to do a TB skin test because they had their medical abroad including a chest x-ray. I believe though that some district offices may be asking for it.

We interviewed August 1st and the subject of a TB test never came up. As a K-1 you get that test done prior to your K-1 interview as part of your medical exam. This is, as I understand it, good for one year, so when you file for AOS the medical exam done previous to the fiance's arrival in the USA is still good.

The chest x-ray which is standard for the medical exam is the next step should a TB skin test show a positive result so if the x-ray was clear there is no need for another skin test.

Misa makes a point that some offices are asking for it, I have read that, but it appears they do so because they are either clueless, or the medical exam took place far enough in the past to make it (in their minds) reasonable to ask for a follow up.

Remember that guy who traveled when he had a contagious form of TB; after all those news stories, some offices conducting AOS interviews were telling people that they would be approved only after submitting TB skin test results. Of course it doesn't make sense because of the negative X-Ray tests done in the Consulate abroad. Still, often govt doesn't make sense huh! We just have to follow their every wish and request!

Anyway, many of us are going ahead and doing the TB skin test before our AOS interview, just in case. I had my husband do it yesterday at the local govt community health center (only about $8 to get it done), he goes in on Monday for the results. I am also confused whether we need something signed by the civil surgeon, after getting the results.

I think the TB test is up to the interviewer, if they want to require it then they will.

I had my interview on July 11th. I was asked for the TB skin test. The AO told me it was because of the guy who flew while having TB. So, she told me I would need to get it done by the CS. However, a few days after my interview, I received a letter stating that she had discussed it with her supervisor and at her discretion, it wasn't needed anymore. This was in Chicago.

The difference is that the chest x-ray ONLY shows advanced TB. It does not show early stages of TB as opposed to the skin test which does. This is why sometimes the chest x-ray is not enough.

I personally think that it is up to the AO if he/she will ask for it or not. If i were going through this process all over again, i would get the skin test done just to avoid any RFE's down the line but that's just me.

I brought our papers for our AOS interview next thursday to the lawyer yesterday and asked him about the 693 form and the tb test. He said we didn't need any of that because the vaccination forms were accepted when we sent in the AOS papers. I then asked him how long he has been an immigration lawyer. 38 years he said. I also asked why do some people get interviews and others don't and he said it is random usually but sometimes an rfe for income tax can trigger the interview. I'll post next thursday and let you all know how we make out.

I can tell you this... those two men who were caught with TB and were flying all over the world with the disease are here now in Nationa Jewish Hospital in Colorado. I am worried about the heightened drama of it here in this state so we made sure to get the TB skin testing done because it is better to be safe than sorry.
