University/college classes with k1 visa

My husband also started school when he came on the K1. The college let him begin his classes without even having a social security number! They filled it in with 000-00-0000 until he received his own. Without a green card though, we had to pay tuition out of pocket because it is forbidden to file a FAFSA. Fortunately, they allowed him to pay just the in-state rate, but we paid $$$$ during that time. He enjoyed studying as it took up his time before he could begin to work.

You can go to college, but you won’t get any federal financial aid until you adjust your status. State aid may vary. At least in Florida, you have to be a “citizen or eligible non-citizen” in order to get any state financial aid, including school-sponsored scholarships. However, some colleges do have privately funded scholarships for international students. Go to the financial aid office of your school to find out more.

That's a shame, the first 6 months is some of the best times. You both get to explore the USA and settle into your life, too bad having to go straight to school.

People making a choice to go to school as early as possible is neither a bad choice nor a shame.

The shame part was she had to start directly to school when she arrived, instead of the spending time together and bonding and hanging out. My fiance came from the same area, the time change and culture shock would be hard to over come in the first week or even first few weeks.

Never said college was a bad choice, please stop reading stuff into my posts.

Ha! Ha!, so right you are. The best time was we arrived thru LAX, so had to drive to Las Vegas,NV after arriving, but The best time was when we arrived into Las Vegas, of course the first thing I did because we were heading up the I-15 was to exit just before the south part of the strip, first landmark was the Welcome to Vegas sign, then I made sure I rolled Las Vegas Blvd. North all the way downtown. We arrived at like 1AM, and all the lights and well.... It's the Strip in Vegas, the things you see there can scar you for life, LOL. The " What the hell did I get myself into look" was priceless. I still have the dash camera footage.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. I know the costs involved in this whole game of immigration, and if I can save you some money I will!
