My husband attended his interview in Juarez today and was placed in the dreaded administrative processing. He's asked to fill out the DS-5535 form but we didn't get the actual form - just questions in an email.

He has had an unlawful presence (waived) in the United States for 22 years and has never traveled outside of the country. What type of travel does he need to report on the DS-5535? Only international travel, which would be none? Or does he have to state all travel within the United States, too? For example: we went to Florida 9 years ago. Does that have to be reported?

International travel only.  No need for details on US domestic travel.  He would have at least 1 international trip to get to his interview in Mexico from the US.

Thank you for that. I wouldn't have thought about it.

Our DS-5535 request also came by email and it should tell you how they want the information submitted back to them. For our embassy we had to send it back in Word document. Once you send, they should send you a confirmation email stating they received it.

The email states that they want the answers in the body of the email and no attachments will be opened. Did you get your case approved? I'm worried that we ended up in a black hole without an exit out of it.

My fiancé interviewed in Ankara on January 25 of this year and still waiting. Our cases did update about 7 times, most recent update was August 17th. I have noticed some cases completed at 2 weeks or a year. I am trying to avoid filing a lawsuit as long as our case keeps updating. My fiancé is Iraqi. It is very frustrating and best advice I can give is stay busy planning trips together. We spent time in Turkey in July and now I am planning trip to Iraq in November. I am praying that he is here in Texas before then.

We have emailed the ds-5535 and received an automatic reply. The reply didn’t specifically mention “we are in receipt” or something similar. Is the automatic reply the official confirmation or should something else be coming from them?

Our reply came with the following:

This is an automated e-mail, please do not reply.

We would like to confirm that we received your DS-5535 form.

Unfortunately our office cannot predict how long this processing will take. However, as soon as it is completed, we will reach out to you via e-mail to explain the next steps required to proceed with your application.  If we need any further information regarding your application, we will reach out to you directly via e-mail.
