Outside normal processing times - USCIS response

I recently sent USCIS an inquiry as my i751 was outside normal processing times. I am a July 21 filer and the last correspondence I received was back in August 21 when I received the 24month extension letter.

Here is the reply I got back from USCIS. I have a fairly 'normal' case, still married, similar age & standing etc. I am concerned by the wording of the e-mail 'perform additional review', is this anything to worry about or just a standard USCIS template letter I have been sent?

Type of service requested:
 -- Outside Normal Processing Times

The status of this service request is:

We have received your service request and researched the status of your case. We have had to perform additional review, and this has caused a delay in processing time. Your case is currently in line for processing and adjudication. Cases are processed in the order in which they were received.

We hope this information is helpful to you.

I think it is a standard template excuse letter. I don't know why they aren't following current policy which allows them to waive solid cases... like your case and our case (filed in March 2019).

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

They don't seem to touch I751's until forced to. The only way that happens is you file for citizenship, and then expect something to happen in 12 months. Will be filing the N400 for my wife in November, hopefully that will move our I751 along for a combo interview.

Here on a K1? Need married and a Certificate in hand within a few hours? I'm here to help. Come to Vegas and I'll marry you Vegas style!!   Visa Journey members are always FREE for my services. I'm sure they can also be sued to give a decision.

True, you could file a writ of mandus, then they will probably just deny it saying background checks were not finished, just to make you refile and start over again, and milk you out of another stack of cash.

I think so, too, but we filed the N-400 in hopes that filing would nudge the I-751 along.  I just don't know why USCIS is not waiving more interviews.  Their policy allows them to do so for solid cases.  I have requested a combo interview, FWIW.

Oh I can think of a couple other ways to get them to touch an I-751 case.  Both involve hauling them into federal court.

We will be filing N-400 in November as well. At first we were in no rush to apply for citizenship and considered waiting until next year (just to avoid paying yet another large filing fee, right before the holidays) but I am hoping it will nudge the I-751 along. All I really care about is my husband at least getting his 10 year green card before the extension letter expires...

That is exactly the position I am in. I too was going to hold off the N400 to save the cash for now and make do with the 10yr GC so I can at least travel. At this rate I think we are all being forced into n400 because it is clear that USCIS are doing nothing with the ROC....

Same here.  Husband is kind of meh about even getting US citizenship, but speeding up the languishing I-751 at the Seattle Field Office would be worth it.

Pretty much how my husband feels as well, and it never hurts to have an additional passport either.
