Hello everyone, I know that this has been asked multiple times but I did not see any recent post about this. My mother petitioned for my brother with PD of 2015. She just got her citizenship last month. From my understanding F2B will automatically changed to F1. As I was looking at the visa bulletin F1 is now working on March 2012 and F2B is still on Oct 2011. I am not sure if i am understanding the bulletin correctly, because there's another box that says they are working on F1 April 2015.

Is it worth changing from F2B to F1? If yes, how do I do it? Thank you

For consulate processing, we look at the 1st table (Final Action Date) Visa Bulletin to check if a visa is available. The second table is used to see if NVC will contact you and ask you to start submitting required documents in preparation for the interview when you date becomes current on the first table.  Currently for Philippines, it would be better to stay on F1 as its ahead by a couple of months. But you never know, maybe in future F2B will start moving faster than F1 so look out for that.

If that happens and you brother wishes to move to F2B, tell him to write to NVC using the Public inquiry form https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/visa-information-resources/ask-nvc.html and attach mother's naturalization certificate and request retention of F2B category.

Looking at your PD, you have still some years of waiting to do so I'd advice your brother waits and sees how the visa bulletin moves.

Thank you for your reply. So, if we don't do anything he will be staying in F2B until NVC is notified?
