Number_6 we both want the same thing here. Peace and harmony. The area I live in does not have these inequalities. Most people are hard working and doing well. Black, white green whatever.

We obviously disagree on the cause and what is feeding the current situation in other places. You says it is historical incidents and injustices. I say it is current attitudes and people like Jesse Jackson who are profiting from the communities current situation.

Virginia has apologized but things will not change. The racial divide will not go away. Who is keeping it alive?? Hence the article I linked from a state which apologized. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20112312/ With comments such as:

"White folks 'been grindin' on an ax ... and that ax ain't got sharp enough for them," said Earnest Hardy Sr., who called the case a witch hunt targeting a successful black man.

Would the guy who made the above comment not judge me based on me having dark blond hair, green eyes and being Caucasian. But hey as the status quo a white man mentioning the word black is automatically assumed as being racist whereas black person can pretty much say anything under the sun with absolutely any repercussions.

People like JamalNTam basically accuse me of being racist but are all quite on the western from with stuff like the following:

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/456363/khall..._the_white_man/

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHAg_5tL4gY

If a Caucasian had made the above statements it would be all over the news.

Fair do's - but personally speaking, I wouldn't defend this guy without reading what he's been writing over the last 18-odd pages...

yeah you guys do. the highly opinionated like-minded people in this forum do it all the time.; without naming anyone.. couch cough alex+R Jenn31231 + mr fancy pants

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

What about poor Caucasians? Why is it they are not incarcerated the same? Considering there are more poor Caucasians in America. There is a clear correlation between poverty and crime after all right?

Is the population of poor African Americans and poor Caucasian Americans the same?

Actually no - my point was that those historical injustices inform the attitudes of the present.

No there are more poor Caucasian Americans. There are not many poor African Americans. There are lots of poor Black Americans but not African Americans.

45,000,000+ Americans live in 'poverty'. Roughly 8,750,000 Black Americans live in poverty. There is clearly no correlation between poverty and crime as the rate of poverty amongst Black Americans is not 5 times the national average; when compared to being imprisoned.

Which basically means 80% of Americans living in poverty are not Black

What I continue to not understand is why you put so much stock in stereotypes.

That's rather simplistic. You can't form that kind of analysis without any mention of distribution - where those people actually live.

What percentage of American inmates come from poor backgrounds?

Noone's railing you - just asking that if you must 'pick sides' that you read the thread in question before weighing in on generalities which have nothing to do with the topic.

Good question. I'm guessing the jails are not full of white collar criminals... ;)

Lets break it down another way.

Lets say we had 80 poor Caucasians and 20 similarly poor black Americans; Which reflects the statistics. Basically for every one Caucasian jailed 5 black Americans are jailed. Therefore if 2 out of the 80 Caucasians living in poverty where jailed; 10 out of the 20 similarly poor black Americans would also be jailed.

I merely find it bizarre that you keep dealing in stereotypes and don't seem to see how it could be offensive.

not 'picking sides' just agreeing w/ that 1 statement & making another.

oh hell, number 6.. how many threads actually stay on topic very long anyway. maybe, if i keep it up. they'll close this thread before pepole start getting too pizzed @ each other.

lighten up a little.

What a world hey. So basically it is okay, and the norm, for someone black to propose the "death of the white man" yet stereotypical racism for someone Caucasian to identify and point out these direct comments.

I show facts and stats I am racist. I quote comments from others; once again 'I' am racist.

Several Vjers work in the prison system. I think their take on this issue would be rather more interesting than a hypothetical "statistical" analysis.
