What do we do if it's been more than two years since we met in person?

Because of the giant K1 backlog, our proof of in-person relationship that my fiance needs to bring to the consulate is more than two years old, but it wasn't when our application was approved.

What should we do? Is this going to be a problem?

It is a very inconvenient time for me to travel back for an in person meeting.

If you cannot travel back, there is not a lot you can do except bring evidence of continuing chats, phone logs, etc.

Well sounds like you are OK as far as the meeting is concerned and meeting the minimum requirements.

I can see other issues

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

2 year in-person meeting requirement is to file the petition not for the interview. However a CO could make a judgement call on the relationship if it's been a while you two have met.

Spouse:

2015-06-16: I-130 Sent

2015-08-17: I-130 approved

2015-09-23: NVC received file

2015-10-05: NVC assigned Case number, Invoice ID & Beneficiary ID

2016-06-30: DS-261 completed, AOS Fee Paid, WL received

2016-07-05: Received IV invoice, IV Fee Paid

2016-07-06: DS-260 Submitted

2016-07-07: AOS and IV Package mailed

2016-07-08: NVC Scan

2016-08-08: Case Complete

2017-06-30: Interview, approved

2017-07-04: Visa in hand

2017-08-01: Entry to US

She may not be asked about it at all, but if she is, she's going to need a good answer why she hasn't seen her future husband in person for more than two years.

When's the interview?

It's not scheduled yet, we're finishing our DS-160, but I'm wondering if this is an exercise in futility. I really cannot travel right now.

@mapo the only real exercise in futility would be if you don't schedule an interview at all. Nobody here can predict what the CO will think. Maybe your best bet is to schedule an interview date some time from now, when you're more available to travel. Alternatively, you could meet in a third country closer to the US so that you don't spend so much time travelling.

Yes, that's an excellent idea, thank you very much.

Are you giving up on your relationship….or feeling overwhelmed by fear of denial and not sure you have put together a solid packet for her upcoming interview.? Of course it would be great if you could actually fly there to accompany her to the interview itself…but since you cannot, then help her prep/prep !

Plenty of enthusiastic people here willing to help you with last minute jitters , evidence you may have missed and especially Consulate specific input.

So fire away ….ask

We had a rough patch in our relationship and stopped working on the visa, but we've fixed things now, and we're trying to get back on track.

We received our notice of approval on 10 May and it's 10 September and the window is 4 months, which means it should expire today if my calculation is correct.

Well maybe I'll try to apply anyway and see what happens.

CEAC still shows us as "READY"
