I have an address in Buffalo and yes, it is the whole family that does not want to relocate. I travel to Buffalo once a month, at least. I guess I have to look into the re-entry permit but do I have to stay there after I apply? If so, how long does it take? Please and thank you.

You stay until you get receipt. Then you come  back for biometrics. After that you can stay out for up to 2 years (less a day)  from the date your I-131 was received by USCIS.

Is there any timeline as to when we get the receipts?

Could be a couple weeks, could be longer. Until you get the receipt you can travel but need to spend the majority of your time in the USA. Or take your chances with a finding of abandoning status.
