Soooo question…. What’s with the 48 months extension?

USCIS is issuing 48-month extension because of backlog.

Hey everybody,  finally received the 48 months extension after filing around September 11th.

As I'm at Potomac I still hadn't received any updates about biometrics...

Sadly, because I never received the first noticed as they messed up my address. I had to get a stamp valid for 1 year with an emergency appointment and give back the plastic green card.

Now I'm wondering if as I have the stamp and the notice I can just use the notice as the extension with/of the stamp or if I'm still gonna need to get a new stamp every year until this is done...

Has anyone heard of something similar in the past?

Extension letter only extends the physical green card, not the stamp.

You'll have to be getting stamps or other new document for travel, like described in this thread:

Extension letter is irrelevant in your situation.

Hummm This is sadly what I was thinking too.

When the agent took back the plastic card because he was giving me an I-551 Stamp he was very adamant saying that it was the same as the temporary green card.

It seems like I lost a good opportunity by trying to make sure I didn't run out of evidence of status...

my husband  did not need the stamp to travel, the letter was more than enough... and the biometric appoint was after we had travel

I think in this particular case @OldUser is responding to someone who had their physical card taken from them and so they only have the stamp. When you travel with the extension letter you still need to show the expired card, which this person no longer has. They were wondering if the extension letter applies to the stamp, which it does not.

bimetrics done.... I guess we will apply for N400 in JULY , might as well...

You have had quite the challenge getting to this point -- SO glad to see that you were able to finally get an appointment and get up to date with the process. I hope your husband did something nice for you to make up for the stress of missing that first appointment! :P
