Hi, I have a few questions regarding the appointment we have next week at the embassy in London.

1) I'm divorced so:

a) do I still need to present the marriage certificate?  Is the divorce court confirmation sufficient?

b) My boys are 12 and 17.  I'm very unsure as to whether their dad actually has to come as well to the appointment.  It sounds like he does - could that be right?

Thank you very much if you know either of these questions :)

Please clarify -- Are you a US citizen?  Is the bio father of your boys a US citizen?  Were your boys born while you two were married?

Yes, I'm a US citizen and their dad is a UK citizen.

Do you share legal custody of your boys?  If you have sole custody and have documentation to prove it, you would need less paperwork from the bio father, even if he does not attend the CRBA appointment.  More info here under "Step 5) Assemble all documents" -- https://uk.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/citizenship/consular-report-of-birth-abroad-crba-and-first-u-s-passport/

:( No, we don't have official documents.  We wrote our own contract and share the boys.  If they have a problem with one portion of it, do they reject you altogether? Or do they wait for documents to complete it?

My 17 year-old will be ok with no dad though, right?

Their bio father does not need to attend the CRBA appointments, but he must sign a statement of consent and provide copies of his ID document.  The page I linked above has the details.
