You're right, it could also be that the attorney's advice was correct at the time it was given. But the situation could have changed and the advice was no longer valid for the changed circumstances... which means that someone didn't check the rules themselves

You are very kind and extending courtesy to that legal advice where none is due.
Advice was incompetent as OP has not had a Valid Extension at ANY TIME

..( he filed I-751 18 months late back in 2019)…so it was not valid from day one.since card expired 18 months before.

No matter when he sought the advice , no matter if OP delayed return, he could NEVER travel and rely on expired Extension Letter.

IF legal advice sought before stamp expired, advice would be get back in time or you won’t board

IF legal advice sought after stamp expired, advice would be DON’T GO you won’t get back …do an emergency InfoPass and get stamp.

I do agree @Adventine that it’s crucial to understand advice…no matter the source…and am not sure OP asked the right questions before making a decision to leave…hopefully they respond

The staff of Aeromexico told me that the letter i797 said that I have 18 months from the last stamp , and the last stamp expired 3 months ago. The stamp on my passport expired on March 2020 . What can I do. They don't allow me to fly from Guatemala.

Your 18 month extension letter extended your green card to 12/19/2019.  Your green card has expired

Apparently you have an I-551 stamp on your passport. If so, it expired June 2022.  You do not have a valid I-551 to board a flight to the USA.

How long have you been outside the USA?

That, right there, is the bottom line.  I would beg the consulate for a boarding foil or get to the US land border and ask for parole.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Please forget the back and forth w airline . I will defer to @Mike E since you are online…you can read all other posts once you understand yourself…Because neither YOU, airline nor attorney seem to grasp or explain the issue..

I been outside the USA since 12/15/21 9 months here in Guatemala.

So your second problem is that you have exceeded 180 days of absence.  Your third problem is approaching:  reaching or exceeding 12 months of absence for the USA.

You must now go to https://www.uscis.gov/i-131a and pay a fee to start the process for your boarding foil.

Due to the length of your absence you must prepare for the possibility your boarding foil will be denied and your spouse will have to file a new I-130 for you.

Get a visa to Mexico and get to the border ASAP. They will let you in….and likely issue NTA ( you get to fight your case in Immigration Court).

This is the only practical option.

Boarding foil will be denied…so save your money for attorney fee to help you navigate .

Just to make sure YOU finally get a bit clearer ( u can earlier link from USCIS)… The card expired 2018 and no matter when the Extension Letter was mailed to you , IT WAS only valid FROM the date of expiration on your card for 18 months…

You proof status ( for travel purposes)  gets extended by the STAMP which expired June 2022..

BUT you ARE STILL an LPR if you can get back in…even if you end up finishing your I-751 in immigration court. Especially as.your wife seems to be advocating for you

Are you and wife still together ( absence notwithstanding)?

I need to back track .

You “expiration stamp on passport is 12/17/2020”.   ..,and you left the US on Sept 2021 ( with an expired I-751 Extension Letter , an expired stamp in your passport) because someone ( possibly attorney) told you you could?

I was staring hard at your blank response til I figured out where it was hidden but….I was referring to Valid I-751 Extension Letter…and the period it covers…not the subsequent stamp

From the document I linked above:

"Expired Conditional Resident: Two-year validity

• A Conditional Resident with an expired PRC (with a two-year expiration date) may be boarded if also in possession of a Notice of Action (Form I-797).

• The Notice of Action extends the validity of the card for a specified length of time, generally 18 months.

• Do not board the traveler if they are not in possession of Form I-797."

What if the Form I 797 is also expired?
