Consular filed I-130 during times of political tension or war

I’m not sure if this is the correct thread/forum to ask this, but it’s something that I’ve been thinking about. Considering what’s going on between Taiwan, the US, and China, and being that my wife is Chinese, historically what’s happened to I-130s and specifically spousal visas in the event of war or times of high political tension?

For instance, if the consulate in China were to close, how would one even proceed? I mean it could be done in another country, but that person would need residence in that third country. And I imagine there would be more scrutiny from individuals a country the US is at war with?

Is it not better to just live in the reality and not in the world of imagination?. China and US are too dependent to each other to go that far. Possibility of you and your wife having grandkids is higher than the closure of the US consulates in china. So better plan for where to play with grandkids rather than planning for which country to go for processing.

They would nominate another Consulate, see for example what happens to Iranians.

I think the bigger issue would be whether China would allow citizens to travel.

Well I do like thought experiments/scenario thinking. But I see your point. I do have many more things to think about in reference to my case!

Makes sense. Thank you for that info.

You’re probably right. It’s getting stricter and stricter there

Bogota, Columbia is the designated embassy for Venezuelans, for example.

Also, "in times of high political tension", nothing happens embassy-wise.  It takes actual war for the State Department to start making accommodations.  Threats of war, threats of tensions, actual tensions, one leader calling the other that his mother was a hamster has no impact.

Interesting. I’d hoped they do something like this in that case. Atleast they are considerate in some respects.
