Hi, I hope someone can help me with the section about Work/Education/Training Information on the form to get a US Visitor Visa (DS-160)

I am unsure about the question

  • Have you ever served in, been a member of or been involved with a paramilitary unit, vigilante unit, rebel group, guerrilla group or insurgent organization?

I don't know what classes as an insurgent organization.

In the past I have been involved in political activism, and have at various points belonged to Marxist and anarchist groups here in the United Kingdom. They are not banned organisations, but they have the intention of creating a unified world without the present national governments.

Their activities have been peaceful thus far, but the Marxist group in particular, Socialist Worker, has as part of its ideology the belief that the ruling classes will not relinquish power without violent resistance, hence an implied need to use violence in at least the final stages of a Marxist revolution.

Would this fit the criteria for an insurgent organization ?

If the group didn’t commit or plan acts of violence then it  was not an insurgency.

Marxists get B visas all the time.  What they don’t get are immigration visas or green cards if they joined the party of their own free will which it appears you did.

Wow, thanks Mike. I'm glad I asked and I'm glad you answered .

If I'd answered yes, as I was going to at first, that could quite easily have scuppered any chance I have of getting a visa.

 😁😎😁
