USC and Maiden Name On Passport

I didn't really know where to post this so I thought that posting this in the "Off Topic" section would be good.

I am planning to attend (well at least hoping to!) my husband's interview sometime this year or next and I was curious about this passport problem.

Right now it takes 10-12 weeks for the passport place to process your new passport for name changes. I know I can expedite it but financially I just cannot do it.

Has anyone lately traveled internationally with their maiden name on their passport? I would be traveling to Honduras with my maiden name on my passport, on my tickets...but my Georgia I.D. is in my married name.

I'm really worried about just getting my tickets in my maiden name so they match my passport and then showing my GA I.D. with my married name on it and them getting all suspicious and not letting me through to Honduras. I would most definitely bring and show them my Honduras marriage certificate (it's in Spanish though, but I have a translation already made up). I've heard and read of people doing this, but I haven't read if it has been done successfully recently.

I was just curious if anyone has done this lately and has flown internationally and back to the states with no problems what-so-ever. I called up the passport place and talked to this (really rude, I might add) lady who told me that the passport MUST be changed to your married name. NO ifs, ands, or buts about it. I even mentioned about reading about showing them my marriage certificate to show the reason for the name change. She said "doesn't matter" and that I MUST change it.

Thanks to anyone who replies! :)

I think as long as your ticket matches your passport you are fine.

I have the same issue, because I took back my maiden name after I got divorced but I haven't changed my passport and the time to process is realllllly slow. Plus, if it's been more than a year since your passport was issued you now have to pay $60 to change your name. I renewed my passport 15 months ago, but my name change wasn't legal then...

ETA: I've never shown my driver's license or ID when I fly. I have always only showed my passport.

Well I don't know if it would be valid to the USA (Please seek accurate information) but my wife came here from Brazil with her passport showing the maiden name. She still have her ID with the maiden name, and a new one with the married name. She brought the two ID's... and a copy of the marriage certificate + translation if necessary. Nothing was requested.... Changing her passport here in the US in the Consulte was faster and easier than do in Brazil. Actually in Brazil they said she would have to pply for a new passport, while here they made just a change in her document. It would have been a waste of time if she had to apply for another one, once her passport was issued one month before the marriage one year ago..we could't wait to do the renewal after the marriage due to the Visa problem...or she wouldn't be able to be here right now......

Hopefully it's going to work for you too....

Thanks everyone! Looks like I was worrying for nothing after all. I'll just leave that GA I.D. home, because after all, my passport IS my I.D.!

Thanks again! :)
