Passport applications taken at oath ceremony

This isn’t a question as much as a possible tip.  In Phoenix, at the oath ceremony, they have passport staff present to take completed applications.  We had an appointment at an office 45 minutes away the same afternoon, so we hightailed it to the nearest CVS to get pictures and money orders.  We had a completed application at home but filled out a new one there.

If you’re interested in getting a passport ASAP, find out if your city has the same.  Since Covid, no acceptance facility accepts walk-ins and appointments can be a month out.  The person also said they hand carry them to processing which saves 10 days of total turnaround.  If you go with the completed form, pics and money orders, you can spend five minutes and be done. The downside being you leave your certificate with them.

When she went to her oath ceremony they had applicaiton but no processing, you had to take it home and mail it in.

Congratulations, and thanks for the information.  Back in 2018 when my wife naturalized, you could walk across the street to the passport agency and apply directly without having to give them your certificate (they maid a copy) if you had a morning ceremony.  Unfortunately my wife had an afternoon ceremony, so we went back the next day and expedited her application and she had her passport in 3 days.

When I took oath in 2018 (San Jose FO, but venue was in energy Campbell), for oaths before 12 pm they were taking passport applications and not taking the naturalization certificate.

I hoped they would give it back.  Not sure if the difference is by area or new procedures since then.  They said they will mail ours back.
