As you are finding out with the UK immigration processes, US immigration is not fast, cheap or easy. Β  It requires planning and patience.

US process much cheaper and far easier. UK process much more expensive and more involved, but faster (especially with the option to expedite processing for more £££).

Β

Neither are fun though. I wouldn't wish it on anyone to be honest.

That would be less than ideal....

I am a US citizen with FLR(M) too!Β

My partner and I submitted our i-130 in April 2021 and we're still waiting at theΒ NCV stage. It's looking like he won't be able to enter the US until at least December this year.Β

Horrendous. I'm surprised they don't offer an expedited service for more money.

The chart I posted is created from VJ member data.Β  VJ members make up only a small part of all cases.Β  However, 18-24 months seems to be a reasonable average, imo.Β  The pandemic caused world-wide consulate closures and staffing problems at USCIS,Β yet the pipeline of applicants didn't seem to slow much.Β  The resulting bottle necks have yet to be completely resolved.Β

Unfortunately, the US Immigration process does not provide any consideration for the involved parties' convenience or goals.Β  Start now, andΒ  hope things speed up.

Note also that a job waiting means nothing unless it is a transfer by your current employer. For a new employer, you'll need to move to the USA and start the job before providing the affidavit of support during the NVC stage of the process.Β  So, you can move in a year or so, leaving your spouse behind, use liquid assets to qualify, or have a qualified joint sponsor.

If they did the majority of people would pay it. (A lot of people currently pay lawyers around $5000 to help them file paperwork thinking it will make things go faster/smoothly).

If most people pay to expedite... the speed would most likely remain the same...Β

I do agree that a lot of people would likely pay for the priority processing, but that would just mean the USCIS could hire more agents. But I digress....

You're working under the assumption the US wants to encourage family based petitions....

remember expedite and premium processing is available for work based green cards/ work cards.Β

The F in DCF stands for "filing", so no.
