I think we lose context with the last few suggestions?

The man has a property, right? So not sure why on earth this is not "an asset". If we also rent it out, then he will also need to pay taxes. That there would solve problems. There are inmates with properties.

I was thinking you were trying to go assets on the I-864 and some one mentioned you couldn't use your primary house, When I did the 864 you could use your primary house for assets.

If he is gonna collect rent then he would be fine for income requirement.

There are two known VJ posters here who have successfully petitioned with a husband in prison. I don't really their names. You need to get in touch with them and save yourself attorney fees

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

Your main issue is going to be finding a Joint Sponsor.

These sort of cases come up here occasionally, not sure I have seen one recently.

$20k is well over the top as a fee, what are they going to do beyond normal processing.

Obviously this is a diy site so most people do not use Lawyers, and there are certainly cases where a Lawyer can add value but do not see it here.

I remember being told there are Prison Forums that have immigration sections.

I thought US embassy London generally allows for self-sponsorship?

K1

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

We are in the process of transferring full ownership to him. So 100% not 50%.

Assuming I apply and I get rejected, right? For whatever reason they feel (I don't have something in mind). How do i get to see him if he has to do all remaining years?!!!

I don't want to risk that. I've heard that once you get rejected, it would be difficult to even travel then.

Are you not concerned about what Jeannie pointed out…..about the families/ victims of his violent crimes going after assets in a civil suit?   It is very, very common here in the US.

Why not have the inmate set up an LLC, pay himself xxxxx per year as "Director" or "President" and pay him self monthly, that would satisfy income requirments.

They can use a Lawyer/CPA to take care of this

Ohio corrections

Up to $200 per transaction and a maximum of $400 per calendar month from an approved (or tentatively approved) visitor may be deposited into an inmate's personal account through any of the following means

so,  he would not have the monthly or yearly income needed to AOS without using assets

Read this thread:

I believe two of the posters were successfully petitioned for green cards. Click on their names and then read all their posts to understand the process.

Get the I-130 and I-130A on file. Then figure out the assets for the I-864 (if you can't find a joint sponsor). When you get to interview be prepared to talk about your husband's crimes and sentence.

Good luck!

He could just use his bank account, not an inmate personal account

and or his partner could just deposit his check into her or their joint account

Many options are on the table

and they go and settle for millions even when the felon doesn't have that much

the inmate may already have been ordered to pay damages

u visit but u need a lot more info

i know this is unsolictied information but inmates write to many and ask for money -even married inmates

inmates have account at the prison

can not have outside band accounts (in most states)

i just read the entire 11 page document on what they are and not allowed to have

and found this also so she can't put the house in his name

Can a felon own property in Ohio?

The key element is the definition of “disability.” R.C. 2923.13(A)(2) prohibits possession if one has been convicted of an “felony offense of violence” and (A)(3) possession if one has been convicted of a felony level drug offense.Jun 30, 2021

all inmates are not felons

felons fall under special conditions

why would this man with a big inheritance need you to send him money ?

why would try to armed robbery if so rich?

your heart can not control your head

u may succeed with the process but its going to be hard and u have to know and read the laws of Ohio for inmates

one of our posters came on K1 and then he was arrested and MIL is helping her

the other wanted to marry someone already convicted /don't know that outcome

its not impossible

its just twice or 3 times as hard as a long and difficult process already is

wishing u the best and i really mean it

my post are not to really discourage u  but  US laws are strange , sometimes unfair,  but never forgiving

OK. An Inmate can own a property. In his case, we have checked for a potential civil suit or court fines and we are safe on this one.

But if that turned to be a problem then I can just rent it out on my name so that could be some proof of income in the US. On the top of that, I also have funds in my US account.

I must confess your post first sent me on a colorful internet read of Why Women Marry Men in Prison. .be they wealthy, educated , smart or the average human struggling with a 9 to 5, it is a less than common phenomenon.

Since you have access to the best immigration attorneys money can buy…and I am pretty certain I know what strategy they recommended, you did good on hitting the “pause” and process button.

Your problem is not I-864 , liquid a$$ets of intending immigrant suffice even if they include a quick wire to a US bank account…trust the advice and sources you already have…it always turns into a lively “debate” on VJ.

Petitioner’s incarceration, conviction as disclosed notwithstanding, is also not insurmountable…w USCIS

Your problem is that you got legal advice telling you the battle can AND has been won  with USCIS /I-485 scenarios but is no man’s land with Consular non reviewability.

After a few sensational reads on the subject of women marrying incarcerated men, this couple’s “impromptu “ marriage strategy was brilliant thinking.

Those whom God has joined together, let no man put asunder,” said the Rev. Johnny Blackwell, a Methodist pastor who officiated the wedding, as Safley placed a ring on Watson’s finger, according to the Kansas City Star.

@JeanneAdil I understand your concerns. Unfortunately, he was an addict. His story is really common. Like many of those US youngsters that despite the good family background, they make bad choices. His family created something of great value but he didn't have access to it. That's family history and it's in the past.

My husband never asked for anything but as a couple we are trying avenues and we try to create possibilities.

@veronicabiondiThis woman was successful via consulate:

You can read her posts and see her timeline here:

She is still active on VJ (last time online August 1) and she filed for citizenship.

You might want to PM her for assistance.
