NVC Welcome Letter not received

The petition for my fiancé got approved on June 21 and it is now August 26 and we have yet to receive the welcome letter. My petition is only approved until October 12 this year. Is it always this short of a time frame? I submitted a request on the NVC website, but they are now answering inquiries from June 23 and I’m nervous. My fiancé currently lives in Jamaica. We keep trying to call the US embassy in Jamaica but the line just rings and then gets disconnected. Who else should we contact?

Welcome letters are not part of the process IME.

https://www.visajourney.com/guides/k1-fiance-visa-flowchart/

 documents the process.

You completed  step 4: 2nd NOA

Step 5 is the case is forwarded to NVC. The linked guide says:

Two weeks after you receive the NOA2 you can contact the NVC to see if they have received your approved I-129F. You can contact them at 603 334-0700.

1. Have you done that?

Step 7 is case received by embassy / consulate. The linked guide says:

“ 5-7 business days after the NVC sends the package to the embassy, you can begin contacting the embassy to see if they have received it.”

2. Have you contacted the embassy / consulate to see if they have received your case?

I see that you have tried calling. https://jm.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/ also lists an email address. Have you emailed that address?

3. Have  you read all the guides for the K-1 and adjustment of status from K-1 process?

Thanks for your response. NVC has suspended the phone line, so no one is able to call them, but only refer to the updates on the website and submit the online inquiry form. I will try emailing the embassy and have my fiancé call them as well.

As a i-129f/K-1, all you get from NVC is a letter with the case number on it (apparently nowadays this letter can also come as an email - mine was a regular letter in the mail, sent to the petitioner). NOTE, far from everyone actually gets this letter/e-mail, no use in waiting for it (our letter came very late, we alrwady had an interview date at the embassy by the time we got the NVC letter).

All you need is the case number, which NVC gives you over the phone. So the letter isn't needed.

The i-129f approval is valid for 4 months at a time, the embassy can extend the validity by 4 months each time, for up to 1 year.

K-1: 12-22-2015 - 09-07-2016

The NVC is no longer taking phone calls. I submitted an online request form asking for it. I didn’t know they were extending the approval date, so that’s good to know.

Put an inquiry in to NVC asking them to contact USCIS to investigate where your petition is. USCIS will blame NVC and NVC will blame USCIS. Most likely, USCIS has not sent your petition to NVC. This happens often. Stay encouraged, this is a frustrating process, but an investigation is necessary at this point. Be encouraged.

That bit in the VJ guide needs updating…as NVC no longer takes calls and averages 90 days to respond to ASK NVC inquiries AND case does NOT get sent to Consulate without DS-160 ..so as in OPs case the 4 month window gets shattered.

OP , if you checked your spam as @Misscloud recommended , then Google your Congressman and fill out their Case Authorization Form online or call them asap. Congressional Liason can get you a response in about 2 weeks.

If you check the June/July NOA2 to NVC topics you’ll see that most people receive their case number between 1.5 - 2 months. I personally am waiting since June 29th with no case number yet.

Hey LeoJazzy!

Don't frustrate yourself. Contact the Consular General. They should have your case.

Case gets sent to the embassy/consulate first, then NVC will send a letter confirming it, including the case number.

The DS-160 is filled out afterwards.

There is no NVC welcome letter for K-1.  The NVC will send a letter when they send the K-1 to the embassy/consulate.

Since Covid, the 4 month expiration has been automatically extended by the NVC.  Currently, even though Covid is mostly gone, there are backlogs created by it in the last 2 years.

Yes , perhaps I was unclear….NVC email confirming case # and that it has been sent is required before DS-160….but as OP stated this post is not easy to reach and others have received notices from consular posts claiming applicant failed to contact and requiring re-affirmation.

Am glad you and others are helping.

I submitted a request to my local congresswoman, so hopefully I hear back soon.
