My only question is: Why the USCIS was approving expedites requests in March/April for the same exact reasons it is denying them today? War is not over, sanctions are still in place, even worsened, people are still being prosecuted for freedom of speech. What has changed?

How do you know they were approving expedites for this reason?

Wow that was a lot of expedites

Things have actually gotten worse since April; those in the know, will agree. Thank you for the question, as it's right on point.

Freedom of Speech is a US thing, or was.

I hate to cast doubt here, but are we positive that there were actually 1,000s of expedites given to Russians...? The Telegram chats often have downright incorrect information (including telling one poster Russians could schedule as a Polish resident for K1 interviews), and in any case, the people religiously running the monthly charts here did not pick up that many expedites. Considering that a month of filers is roughly a few thousand, 1,000+ expedites from Russia alone (which would be dwarfed by Ukrainian expedites) seems unfathomable to me.

In any case, expedites have traditionally been granted for factors injuring the US citizen - not the foreign beneficiary. Hence why war was, previously, not a valid reason for expedite. A successful expedite request for non-Ukrainians in August 2022 will need to prove something more than just war.

I have seen a few Ukrainians living in Russia get expedites, and of course do not see everything but have certainly missed Russian expedites, and can not think of any general reason they would happen, individual cases are of course individual.

Hey. No, I never said that 1000+ expedites were given to the Russian cases. I said there are 1000+ members of the local group who are sharing their experiences. Some of them were given expedites pretty easily in March/April, others were denied for the same exact reasons thereafter.

And don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that Russian cases should get ahead of everyone. I’m just curious why USCIS approved so many expedites with reasons that were not considered ‘traditionally’ valid before.

Pretty sure if anybody on here was aware this happened somebody would have said something. And there are quite a few RUB members.

I have found, over the years, that there is great deal of discretion at USCIS when making decisions.  Sometimes, I am surprised at how easy some things are approved while others are not.

Please take a look at these timelines for Russian cases:

https://www.visajourney.com/timeline/k1list.php?cfl=&op1=5&op2=d&op3=1&op4=1&op5=5,6,8,10,11,13,14,15,16,17,18,20,21,22,25,26,27,28,108,110,111,208,210,211&op6=All&op66=All&op7=Russia&dfile=No&adv=0

You can definitely see an unusual amount of cases getting approved in March/April way earlier than the expected processing. These people are just quietly enjoying their journey :D
